Born during the Daimler-Chrysler years, the rear-drive Chrysler Crossfire was built by Karmann of Germany for model years 2004-2008. The two-seater is based on the R170 platform and shares 80 percent of its components with the R170 Mercedes-Benz SLK320.
The name “Crossfire” refers to the two character lines that run from front to rear along the body sides — crossing each other midway through the door panel. Conceived during the period of Chrysler‘s ownership by Daimler-Benz, the name also refers to the collaboration of the two companies. The Crossfire’s fastback roof and broad rear fenders made for a design that prompted automotive journalists and writers to compare the new car to American Motors’ 1965–1967 Marlin.
Dressed in Alabaster paint with a black cloth top, the car’s exterior is in very good condition, with only minor blemishes visible upon close inspection. The tinted glass panels are all in great shape, including the glass backlight with rear defroster. The lights are in good order but the headlight covers have faded from sun exposure. The front passenger seat does have a visable stain. The car rolls on Yokohama Avid S4 tires, 225/40R18 in front and 255/35R19 in back. Those tires surround seven-spoke factory alloy wheels. All of its body panels are straight, the power rear wing spoiler automatically deploys above 60 mph, the black cloth top is in very good order and the bumpers are in great condition.
Chrysler executed the interior and exterior styling. All other elements of the car such as wheelbase, track, engine, transmission, and chassis structure and suspension components are shared with the R170 platform. An example of this is the engine bay of the Crossfire, which is virtually identical to the SLK320 on the R170 platform. The SLK320 seats will bolt directly into the Crossfire chassis. The dashboard layout, controls and instruments are also similar to those on the SLK320.
After opening the either door, what draws your eye is the matte silver center stack and console, setting off the otherwise black instrument panel and interior. The sport bucket seats are leather with available heat, eight-way power assist for the driver and four-way power for the passenger are in very good order, with a minor blemish on the driver’s side seatback, probably from seatbelt contact. The matching carpet is in very good shape. The aforementioned dashboard, four-spoke leather-wrapped and stitched steering wheel, door skins, mirrors, center console and shift lever are all in excellent shape.
Driver assist features include cruise control, windshield wipers with intermittent feature, power steering, dual-zone air conditioning, remote keyless entry with central locking, including the fuel filler door, a universal garage door opener, power windows (one-touch down), stability and traction control, tire pressure monitoring system, dual front air bags plus door-mounted thorax side air bags and power four-wheel anti-lock brakes. Finishing the interior is an Infinity® Modulus AM/FM stereo with anti-theft, CD and a 240-watt amplifier with six speakers.
The standard transmission is a six-speed manual with an optional five-speed automatic. Standard and Limited models, originally sold beginning in the 2004 model year, are equipped with a Mercedes-Benz 3.2L, 18-valve, SOHC V-6 engine. The manual transmission in the Crossfire is a variant of the Mercedes sourced NSG-370. Unlike most cars of its time, the Crossfire does not use a rack and pinion steering system; instead, it utilizes a recirculating ball system as employed on the donor R170 platform. Front suspension is unequal length (SLA) double wishbone suspension with five-point multi link in the rear plus front and rear stabilizer bars.
Competition to the Crossfire in 2006 included Audi’s TT Roadster, BMW’s Z4 Roadster, Chevrolet’s SSR Convertible, Honda’s S2000 and Mercedes-Benz’s SLK320.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 40,220 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, actual mileage title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
