1949 Chrysler New Yorker 8cyl
1949 Chrysler New Yorker Description
Great spring project. Got this from the widow of the fella that spent from 2006 through 2011 restoring it. Seems he got 95% done with the project when he fell ill and well you know the rest of the story. This guy and his good buddy did a great job on a really solid, almost rust free example. The body was taken to bare metal, minor rust areas replaced then prepped and painted two tone with basecoat clearcoat at a local Maaco. I'd give the paint an eight, very nice driver but not show. The interior was totally done by a local shop and is of very high quality. All the glass sans the curved rear was replaced with new/tinted.etc. etc. Have 11 page ledger that starts with $1500.00 for the car in 2006 and ends with Big O tires $446.00 in 2011 and totals over $23000.00. Still needs a couple things and the bugs worked out. The motor purrs although the starter solenoid doesn't always kick in and the carb stumbles a little off idle and probably needs a rebuild, accelerator plunger. Dome light and switch still need to be installed along with the wiring tidied up... it has been upgraded to 12v and generator was rebuilt although the carb switch and choke electrics and transmission solenoid, governor electrics still need wiring. Trans shifts from low to high range via the column shifter and seems to do its 1-2 shift although I've only driven it up and down the block.Reverse works fine but is hard to get engaged(column is loosened at the dash and sanded as if they were going to paint it). Brakes work fine and were gone through including booster I believe. The diecast is way above average and the stainless is nice but not polished like it should have been when all apart.I have the missing rocker molding which is very nice and it still needs an antenna.Arizona solid, straight eight to boot, giveaway reserve.
