2002 Chrysler Town & Country LXi Description

100% of the proceeds of this sale are going directly to charity (Hillcrest Baptist Church) via the "eBay Giving Works" program.
We no longer need this vehicle and want to let someone else get some use out of it and to put the proceeds to charitable use.

This is a ONE OWNER vehicle that has never been in an accident and has never had any body work or paint repairs.

See the official "Vehicle History Report" (on the tab next to the "Description" tab) and bid with confidence!

NOTE that this vehicle will require some work and TLC to make it trip-worthy. It is suitable for around-town driving, but we have not used it for any long trips for quite some time, due to the various issues that are described in detail below.

We purchased this vehicle new in 2002. It has been very reliable. Other than needing the transmission rebuilt (at 30,000 miles; while under the new-vehicle warranty), this vehicle has never needed any major mechanical work. Some minor front-end work was done a few years ago to improve the ride. I believe the struts were replaced at that time as well.

The vehicle currently has over 200,000 miles on it.

An after-market trailer hitch is installed (Class III, I think; it's the one with a 2" square receiver). We have a light-kit (I think) that plugs in to the driver-side rear taillight (it takes less than 5 minutes to hook it up).

Front tires need to be replaced soon (especially before any long trips). Rear tires have lots of tread-wear left on them (one is actually brand new thanks to a road-hazard replacement due to a nail in the sidewall that happened a few weeks ago). One wheel is not "standard". We have the fourth original wheel, but it was damaged by a parking curb. Buyer can have the damaged wheel if desired, but it is most likely ready for the trash bin.
The engine runs and is in good condition. No knocking, no smoking, etc. Uses some oil between oil changes. I have noticed a slight vibration coming from the engine recently. I have not run any diagnostics, so I don't know if a cylinder is misfiring or if an injector is clogged or partially clogged or if it's something else. Spark plugs have been replaced within the last year or so, but the plug wires were not replaced.
A/C is functional (blows cold air), but the heater is not fully functional (I presume that the heater core is clogged; heater fan will blow hot air after the vehicle has been running for a while (with the fan off), but the air stops being hot after blowing for a few minutes; this means that coolant is not circulating through the heater core, but it will blow hot after the ambient heat in the engine compartment heats up the heater core). No coolant leaks have been noted and there is no smell of coolant inside or outside the vehicle. It might be possible to clean / flush the heater core rather than replacing it.
The leather interior is showing its age, especially the driver's seat.
The headliner has started to sag in several places (see pix); probably some spray adhesive will take care of this.
One bulb in the passenger-side rear taillight is nonfunctional. Also, the passenger-side low-beam headlight bulb stopped shining a couple weeks ago; after I took pictures (the pix show both headlights on); both high-beams work fine. The headlights sometimes (about 10% of the time) start flashing on-and-off (about once per second). When this happens, the windshield wipers also stop working; so it seems to be an intermittent problem in the circuit that controls both those features.
The third brake light (the one at the top of the liftgate) is non-functional.
Liftgate and sliding side doors only operate manually (i.e. the factory power mechanisms are not fully functional).
The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) has an intermittent problem. Sometimes it fails to read the wireless RFID code from the ignition key (Sentry Key). We have found a work-around that involves manually disconnecting the SKIM (which is right under the steering wheel) and reconnecting it (this step is only required whenever the RFID fails to read properly, which happens about 50% of the time). When this problem occurs, sometimes it requires several disconnect/reconnect tries (each try takes about 1-2 seconds) before the SKIM properly acknowledges the Sentry Key. This occurs with both Sentry Keys, so it is most likely the SKIM module itself. The easiest long-term fix would be to simply install a remote start system (those systems spoof the existence of the Sentry Key because the remote key fob has to be able to start the car without the Sentry Key being present--a remote-start installation specialist can explain how this works).
No significant rust; some minor dings.
The Body Control Module (BCM) was replaced about 15,000 miles ago. The original BCM was reading just shy of 200,000 miles when it was replaced. The "new" BCM was used and had about 150,000 miles on it. As such, the actual miles are about 50,000 more than what currently shows on the odometer. The BCM was replaced as an effort to fix the intermittent flashing of the headlights. The replacement BCM did not fix that problem, but it was easiest to just leave the replacement BCM in place. The original BCM will be included with the vehicle, as well.

I have noticed within the last few months a vibration that sometimes occurs on the highway at about 60 mph. I cannot tell if this is something drivetrain-related or a wheel-balance issue or something else.

I believe that is all the good, the bad, and the ugly about this vehicle.
Buyer will be responsible for paying a $150 non-refundable deposit (via PayPal) within 24 hours after the auction closes, then providing payment of the balance due within 7 days thereafter (or the sale will be canceled and the deposit will be forfeited). Personal checks for the balance due are acceptable, but must clear our bank at least 4 days prior to buyer taking possession of the vehicle. Buyer must take possession within 30 days after auction close(or the sale will be canceled and all funds paid will be forfeited).

This vehicle is being sold for local pickup or for buyer-arranged, buyer-paid shipping. I will make reasonable arrangements to accommodate pickup by a commercial transport service.
I have tried to be as complete as possible in describing all the "issues" I know about concerning this vehicle. However, this vehicle is being sold AS-IS and comes with no warranties and no guarantees.
The vehicle is available for physical inspection prior to bidding (by appointment) in Stillwater, OK.
