1961 Chrysler Imperial Lebaron New Yorker Southampton Description

NO RESERVE -Rare, Fully Loaded 1961 Chrysler Imperial

1961 Imperial Crown, 66k, 413 V8. Options include a/c, power windows, power seats, power steering and power brakes. I bought the Imperial from the son of a Mopar collector, it was in his family since the 70's.I've got a second '61 Imperial, a white LeBaron as seen below as well.

The '61 Imperial is my favorite car of the "Fin Era" and one of my all time favorite cars, period. It's got the tallest fins of any car, a square steering wheel, freestanding chrome headlight pods, "thermometer" style speedometer and a "futuristic" push-button automatic transmission on the dashboard. There is simply not another car like it. I looked for a '61 Imperial for a while before finding this solid, running car. Most of the 1961 Imperials I found were either sinking into the ground in a backyard for 20 years, missing drivetrains / glass / bumpers, or costing anywhere from $18k-$25k. I've got a lot of time, money and effort invested but finances and lack of storage force sale.

Mechanical: Extensive brake system overhaul, including brake lines, all six wheel cylinders, brake shoes and assorted hoses, fittings and hardware. If you're familiar with these cars you know how much labor is involved getting all those components installed, adjusted, bled and stopping just right. The fuel system was replaced as well: new fuel tank and sending unit (even reproduction tanks are $500+) and fuel lines, rebuilt carburetor and fuel pump. Brand new starter and high pressure power steering hose. Complete tuneup as well including new battery andgroundcable as well as all new belts. The exhaust system is brand new from the engine back as well, nice dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. The pushbutton transmission works well, a new shifter solenoid had been put in at some point. The a/c compressor is in the trunk now, it needs rebuild. The power windows need going through; the driver's front and rear worked but now don't, might need switches but assume the car needs window motors. The power seat does work, the wipers and horn work, the radio will crackle to life intermittently. The tires are new as well. The engine starts easily even after sitting for weeks and the garage floor is always dry when I pull the car out. No noises from engine, power steering works perfectly, the 413 V8 is surprisingly quiet and smooth. The previous owner claimed the 76k on the odometer is original, my mechanic thinks so as well.

Cosmetic: as you can see the car is a 10-20 footer, the paint and chrome are original. The first photos were right after compounding and waxing and in direct sunlight, I was surprised when I saw how good those photos looked. The interior overall is in fair to good condition and complete, nothing missing. The front seat has a few open seams, otherwise just some fading at the tops of the seats. The headliner, visors, and all door panels are presentable and the dash is very nice. The rear deck material is dry and faded. The front bumper is good as well as the grill, and the rear bumper is peeling in spots. Some small areas of corrosion down the bottom under the doors and around the wheel wells, nothing too bad as seen in the pix. All the panels line up straight, doors, hood and trunk and the doors close easily. The body and undercarriage are solid overall, floors and frame good. The car has never been repainted or had any sheetmetal repair. Overall a cool, unique driver quality classic ora great candidate forfull restoration.

Always starts easily, 413 V8 accelerates well, cruises nicely on the highway, and brakes evenly. No leaks from anywhere, garage floor is dry when I pull the car out.

I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Imperial is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well.I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a door to door auto shipper I've used in the past; they're professional, reliable and have great rates.
