1978 Datsun 280Z
1978 Datsun Z-Series Description
Selling my 1978 Datsun 280Z 2+2. I am the second owner and purchased the vehicle two years ago from a client of mine. The original owner purchased the car from Bob Sharp Motors out of Connecticut on 7/19/78. It was equiped with side molding, Kendallkote, air conditioning, undercoating and Permaglaze wax. When I purchased the vehicle they gave me a binder with paperwork including original bill of sale, repairs from over the years and owners warranty manual.
After purchasing the car I had the car repainted the original color (Racing Green 240). I then dropped it off with my mechanic and had them go over the entire car. They replaced the following:air flow meter, temperature sensor, battery, brake calipers, gas line, fuel pump, fuel filter, gas tank, water pump, Toyo tires, oil pressure switch and some other items that I can't remember. I would rate the car a solid 8.5 out of 10. I'm no expert but it looks great and is fun to drive. The body is straight and the paint is like new. When the paint shop picked up the car they were impressed how well it looked for the age. They figured since it was originally undercoated from the dealer it held up well.
The few things the car needs are: passenger window handle is broken, blinkers don't automatically shut off after you turn, windshield wipers need replacing and the engine clatters( I will be bringing the car back to the mechanic to have him check on this). I think the valves need adjusting. The rear bumper has some pitting and rust. Remember this car is 38 years old and I have tried to preserve the car to be original.
I have only driven the car 20 miles since I got it back from the mechanic. I have not had it inspected but I think it would pass with a few small things to replace. The reason for selling is because I'm not a big fan of the car. I've had a lot of cars over the years and I thought this would be a fun project. Unfortunately this project took way too long to complete and I'm interested in an old Chevy truck.
