1965 Dodge Coronet Description

This 1965 Dodge Coronet "Mr. Norm" Drag Car Tribute is for sale in our Louisville Showroom. This Drag car is a tribute to the glory days of Drag Racing and the people that made it possible. Norm Kraus (aka Mr. Norm) formed the first Grand Spaulding Dodge racing team comprised of two cars, a Max Wedge and a Hemi Ram. Meanwhile, sales of new Dodges doubled over the previous year, a phenomenon that would continue for the next seven years! The first of many "Mr. Norm's" Sport Club social/dances with The Buckingham's as feature music group took place at the dealership. The service department was enlarged to double the original size to handle ever-increasing demands based on sales of Hemi Rams and Max Wedges. Norm teamed up with Gary Dyer and began match racing with an altered wheel base Supercharged Hemi Dodge Coronet that altered the course of racing forever by laying the groundwork for what became the professional Funny Car Category. This car turned an 8.63 e.t. at Lions Dragway late in the year to become the fastest funny car in the country, making the front page of the Los Angeles Herald. Late in the year, Mr. Norm went to the fledgling SEMA Show in Anaheim, California and instituted a full-scale high performance parts department at the dealership. This beautiful rendition sports a 426 max wedge engine that is mated to a 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission. The big engine is fed by two Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetors to insure this beast gets plenty of fuel. When you are at the drag strip, the exhaust can be uncapped, so there are no restrictions in the performance of this car. The front wheels are aluminum American racing Torque Thrust wheels are shod in Goodyear front runner tires. The rear wheels are painted 15 inch wheels shod with 8.2 x 15 Firestone Cheater Slicks. The interior is very basic as it would have been in 1965. If you decide to actually race, the safety belts will need to be recertified. The bare bones approach of this Mr. Norm Coronet is just as it would have been in 1965. No extra options, just a big motor with a set of sticky tires and off to the drag strip. The white with red stripes paint work is absolutely incredible on this Coronet, and the decals gives it period correct authenticity. The four doors give riders easy access and allows the driver to not only haul ass, but haul a lotta ass. Options for this 1965 Dodge Coronet Drag car include; manual steering, manual brakes, racing safety belts and all the power you can handle. This 1965 Dodge Coronet "Mr. Norm" Drag Car Tribute can be seen, including an HD video, at www.gatewayclassiccars.com or call at 812-294-1555 or email Louisville@gatewayclassiccars.com for more information.
