You’re bidding on a Top Banana yellow (FY1) 1972 Dodge Challenger sport coupe with the ever so reliable 318 V8. This Challenger is believed to be totally original aside from having a newer paint job and vinyl top applied. Also what’s believed to be original is the super low 69,000 miles it’s accumulated over the past 44 years. The 318 runs strong on regular grade fuel with no leaks, noises or smoke. Starts right up in the morning with 2 pumps to the floor...put it in reverse and back out of the garage. It has a newer dual exhaust system with what look to be Flowmaster 10’s (Shorties) that have an aggressive muscular sound. What’s original and rare is that it still retains a points and condenser ignition system after all these years. No electronics here. Amazing! The 904 transmission shifts both up and down smoothly and the rear differential is an open 8 ¾ with 2.76 gearing that spins quietly. Again with no leaks.
The body of this car still retains its original sheet metal and floors. Also its numbers matching drivetrain and even its date coded original near perfect windshield. Car shows no rust other than surface rust on the underside and if you want to be picky, the trunk floor. That’s it. All the glass including the side glass is near perfect. Not even any roller marks. The paint job is a base coat clear with a smooth finish, excellent shine and no orange peel. The vinyl top is like it was just installed…perfect. Its super white with no bubbles in the typical areas or around the moldings. All trim is good with only the original bumpers showing some signs of age. No big deal. Wheels including trim rings and center are virtually new. Tires are good with lots of life left. All the body lines including fenders, doors and window gaps are excellent. No worn door hinges here. No movement what so ever.
The interior is original with all its accessories working including the timed entry lights for both ignition key and headlight switch. Even the key buzzer still works along with the original AM Radio. Car has the light group option which includes: hood mounted turn signals, glove box, trunk light and ask tray lights. All which work perfectly. Dash is in great shape with all instruments and lights working and has clear lenses and nice bezels. Dash pad has a newer cap on it with the original “Challenger” script reapplied. Carpet is great and does not need replacing. Both front door panels have the typical dry caulking at the tops from UV exposure over 44 years. (See photos) Headliner also shows signs of age where felt patches were applied to cover what is again typical, holes made by chip monks or mice. Again, this is quite common in old cars. (See photos)The front and seats are original and in good condition with only the drives seat showing some rips at the seams. (See photos) Rear package tray is original and again in great condition. In the trunk you have the original mat and an original type bias ply spare tire with the jack and all accessories still in place.
I think I’ve covered most all I can tell you about the car other than the driving experience. The car drive incredible. It floats along smoothly with no driveline noise or any types of interior rattles. It’s tight and tracks down the road straight with the steering wheel being centered. The thing you’ll notice most when driving are all the thumbs up and the photos people take as they pass by. Not to mention the conversations you’ll have with people at stop lights and at gas stations. It’s a true attention getter. This is the perfect car you can feel proud of at any car show and when taking the family out on the weekend or to the beach. Its good looking and best of all, reliable.
