2003 Dodge 5.9 Diesel Dually Auto, crewcab, 2wd, New Engine, excellent truck.
2003 Dodge Ram 3500 Description
I am the 2nd owner of this truck, I bought it from Lone Star Chevrolet in Houston in December 2011 when the original owner traded it in, at the time it was obvious the truck had never been used for work, I had to install a gooseneck ball and kingpin in the bed of the truck to hook up my trailer. Truck was 9 years old and had 112,000 miles on it. Truck has always been adult owned and operated, i have been the only driver since i bought the truck, except a mechanic, and one of my coworkers helped me move it across town once.
I have used this truck for work but I have NEVER abused it, this has been a rock solid vehicle, made a lot of money hauling freight out of Beaumont with it and in return i spent a lot of money keeping this truck ready to go anywhere in the country on a moments notice. Of course it is not as nice now as it was when i bought it, it has a few bumps and bruises but it has never been wrecked and has nothing more than minor dents and scratches, it still looks decent inside and out, lost sight of a telephone phone and backed into it one night, it bent the rear bumper up a little, it is not real noticeable unless you are up close to the truck.. hit a tire on a dark highway late one night and it put a 4-6 inch crack in the fiberglass right in front of the left rear wheel where the fiberglass meets the inside of the fender weld, i put some fiberglass on it but i never sanded and painted it. has a small dent in the hood. not sure what happened there. (see pictures)All the exterior lights have been changed to LED'S
Front tires are at 9/12 and back tires range around 5/12 and 7/12, always bought tires from discount tire and always bought them in sets, was never good at getting them rotated.
Shortly after buying the truck, I had the front end rebuilt with Moog life time parts, it is still in good shape.
Installed a new 100 gallon gravity feed diamond plated fuel tank in the bed along with a diamond plated tool box and a set of airbags under the truck. hinges are now broken on the tool box from hauling a customers tool trailer, I keep the lid locked down with a couple of 1 inch ratchet straps.
has a crack in the dash like most of them do and it has a whole about the size of a silver dollar, i covered it with a dash cover.AC system has all been replaced with the exception of the condenser, it will freeze me out of the truck and i like a good cold AC in the summer, replaced the heater core while replacing the evaporator.
Replaced the rear brakes and rotors with top of the line heavy duty brakes and rotors, greased the bearings and installed new axle seals 2 years ago, truck has been on the road very little since then, this is about the time all of the ac work was done.November 2014, replaced the batteries and replaced the radiator.December 2014 I took the truck to my local dealer and had the rear end and transmission serviced, replaced transmission lines, replaced thermostat and had a compression test done because i wanted to know the condition of the engine, i knew going in to the dealer it was also time for injectors, the compression ranged between 400 and 440 on all cylinders, after they installed the injectors, one of the injectors was not working and it destroyed the number 3 piston while they were test driving the truck.
Dealer claimed it was not their responsibility, so after being out of work for a month in January of last year I bought a 2013 Dodge flatbed so I could go back to work. (Different Dealer)February of last year I had new remanufactured 5.9 Cummins professionally built and installed. The new engine has less than 10,000 miles on it,
I used the truck a little last year, made a trip to South Carolina and a trip to Ohio. At the time, i felt like the bugs just were not worked out yet, So i took the truck off the road, it has mainly been at my house or at the terminal where i work, i crank it and drive it every week or so. Also installed a caterpillar 2 canister fuel filter system, hopefully eliminate future problems with injectors and I always used injector cleaner.
Took the truck to a Dodge country dealer not too far from home whose work is pretty much diesels, told them the truck was putting out a little smoke when fuel pedal pushed hard in transmission was in park, they told me it was not enough to be concerned about, while the truck was there I had the valve body for the transmission rebuilt and installed new linkage and changed out the neutral safety switch and solenoid along with a new bell crank/ TPS. There are no fluid leaks, there are no engine codes, no check engine lights and nothing has been temporarily repaired on the truck.
That has pretty much always been the case with the truck, i take it to the dealer and told them to fix anything and everything they could find wrong with it.
I am not getting rid of a problematic truck, i would love to keep this truck. The newer Dodge I have, has a flatbed and that gives me more flexibility, since fuel prices have came dow, freight has slowed and i haul mainly freight out of the refineries, the flatbed is the truck i need right now.
This 2003 is now ready to go to work,or pull the rv across the country. I would not hesitate to hook up a 40ft gooseneck trailer and drag it to North Alaska, I have as much if not more faith in this 03 than i do the 2013 i bought and it is a really good truck also. I asked a coworker to drive it for me one day because i needed to move it across town, afterward, he said it drives as good as his new Dodge.
There are no squeaks, rattles or unknown noises, there are no leaks, this truck is tight and in excellent mechanical condition
Over the years i have bought 5 vehicles on eBa, all claimed to be in great shap, 3 times the vehicles were not even close to being in the condition advertised, That is not how i do business, this truck is in fantastic mechanical condition. This truck has been very personal to me, it has provided a good living for my family and i tried to take really good care of this truck. The only issues i know of with this truckCruise control does not work, this year of truck has its own vacuum pump, the dealer wants $491 for the pump, i never used it much anyway, so i could not justify buying the vacuum pump.windows only operate from the driver seat, could be a dirty switch that engages and disengages the window control for the other doors.
Drove the truck home Labor day weekend, to check on the parent, 513 miles R/, ran like a champ,
This truck will provide someone years of good service.
I have all of the receipts for the work that has been done since i bought the truck.
Picture of the engine without the oil cap off, was taken with the engine running, as you can see there is no blow by on this engine.
I live less than 90 minutes from Bush international airport, if someone needs to fly here to get the truck, I can pick you at the airport,
And there you have it,Any questions my number is 772-233-6289
