1997 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Description

1997 Dodge 2500 4x4 Cummins Turbo Diesel Extended Cab Low Mileage

Up for sale is my 1997 Dodge 2500 4x4 Cummins Turbo Diesel Extended Cab Laramie SLT with the 5 speed NV4500 and ultra low mileage, 103,700+ miles. Options - Laramie SLT decor package, trailer tow group, anti-spin differential, heavy duty service group, sliding glass rear window, 6 way power driver’s seat. Never abused or worked, never had a gooseneck, always a Texas truck - ZERO rust. I purchased the truck in June of 2014, (mileage was 89,650) from a friend who had purchased the truck from the original elderly owner. My buddy only had the truck for several weeks, so I am sort of the second owner. I have basically put 14,000 miles on it in 30 or so months. 8000+ miles have come in the last 3 months making trips to our place in Colorado. I would drive this truck to Alaska tomorrow.

Mechanically, the truck is in fantastic shape and it has always had preventive maintenance.

The original owner had the truck serviced at the Dodge dealer in San Antonio.

I planned on keeping this truck for a long time so something could be done preventatively, it was done.Oil has been changed 3 times in 14,000 miles. Fuel filter once and will be due by years end. I have a new filter for the new owner.

It’s never been “turned up”, it’s 100% factory.

The rear brakes were completely shot when I bought it. The entire axle and rear brake system was rebuilt and resealed – this is a very expensive and time consuming job. 8/14

I had the timing killer dowel pin “killed” in 2015 so no worries about that.

New batteries 3/15

New Serpentine Belt 8/15

A/C serviced 7/16

Idler pulley was starting the squeak - replaced 6/16

New Horn 8/16

The exhaust is original and is in great shape, again, we have zero rust issues here.

It drives straight as an arrow and there is no typical Dodge wandering in the steering.

Truck has been maintained, no drips/leaks.

The valve cover gaskets were also just replaced. 8/16

The rear third brake lamp was leaking and that was recently repaired.

Never had a gooseneck.

The truck had Goodyears on it now, guessing they have 8,000 miles on them and are in great shape.

The truck gets excellent fuel mileage.

I have made 3 recent trips to our place in Colorado in the last two months (7-8,000 miles) and I would drive this truck to Alaska tomorrow.

Truck will get a wash this week for the new owner.

Overall, the interior is in very good shape, minus a cracked dash. It has a dash cover so the cracks never bothered me but you can replace the dash with a cap for $130 or so if it bothers you. It was the nice catch all front floor mats. Carpet is in good shape, it’s original. Slight discoloration by passenger side by the door but I believe a good cleaning would make it even nicer.

Driver’s seat is power and has zero tears and barely any wear, and bolsters in good shape.

The headliner had a few marks/cuts on it and it was on the edge of sagging so I had it professionally replaced a month ago - still smells like the headliner adhesive, lol.

Everything works as it should, power seat, windows, locks, cruise, a/c, etc……. A/C blows crazy cold.

Aftermarket stereo

The steering wheel was professionally rewrapped with the factory leather so it looks new as well.

The issues: As noted, the dash is cracked but it’s not horrible, but the typical Dodge dash. A $130 replacement cover would fix it or just keep the dash cover that is in place now - I always used the old man dash cover anyway so I never bothered.

The power passenger window, occasionally comes down partially crooked when rolling down but it goes back up with no issue, may be happens every 1 out of 20 times and actually has not happened on my recent trips.

The rear third brake lamp was leaking and that was recently repaired.

Additional info

Original Window sticker

It is 100% absolutely rust free.

This trucks gets great fuel mileage and has none of the silly new emission stuff.

Always a Texas truck.

Never wrecked

The original owner was an older gentleman and really only used the truck to make trips to their small ranch about 200 miles away from San Antonio.

The truck has never had a gooseneck ball installed or hauled heavy loads. It used to have a plastic bedliner but I removed and what you see in the photos is the original paint in the bed (I believe I still have the bedliner at the shop).

Unfortunately, like all white Dodges of the era, the sun burned off most of original paint. I had the truck professionally painted back the original white at Two Day paint and Body in Austin, Texas as soon as I purchased it.

I do have “before” photos if you want to see them.

There are a few small dents, most notable on the right rear above the exhaust pipe, see pic.

I purchased a nice Leer camper/topper which matched the white perfectly. There is a scrape from the top on the top/inside of tailgate from the camper window/latching.

I am sure I am missing something.

I am sure there might be a nicer 12 valve out there but this one is well maintained and 100% mechanically ready to go, looks fantastic as well. Please keep in mind, this truck is almost 20 years old so it’s not perfect as it is a used truck but looks great, mechanically it’s perfect, and rust free.

I have tried to represent the truck accurately and in detail.

I am not a car salesman and will answer question honestly and to the best of my ability. I have a 100% positive feedback.

Why am I selling it? I purchase a new crew cab since we need more interior space.

The truck is used and therefore there is no warranty expressed or implied and is being sold as is. I am happy to pick you up at the airport if you are coming from out of town or will help ship but the buyer is solely responsible for paying for shipping. $500 non-refundable deposit is due immediately following the auction.
