1999 dodge ram 2500 "24 valve CUMMINS "NON-#53 BLOCK" $8,000.00 O.B.O.(NEW PICS)
1999 Dodge Ram 2500 Description
Well here it is, a "Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 24 Valve CUMMINS Diesel".
FIRST, that "Question" EVERYONE wanted an answer to; "Is it a #53 Block?'. IF you look at the pictures(Look REAL CLOSELY. I know they're hard to see), you'll see there IS NO #53 where it's suppose to be. Where the "Wiring Harness" is, and blocks your view, there's a bunch of numbers "B2" and then other numbers. From ALL my research, this confirms it is in fact NOT, a "#53 Block". You're more than welcome to confirm what I've stated by visually inspecting it for yourself. So, that outta the way here's the rest. It's a good old truck. Remember, "Old" being the keyword here. It's babied by myself. I don't abuse it. I idle it to warm it up. Idle it to let the turbo cool down (3-5 minutes). It's SOLID. No "Rot" or "Sheet Metal Cancer". ALL the doors work including the extended cab doors. It has good tires. It runs like a bus and accelerates like a bus. It's NOT a "Hotrod". It's a "Non-smoker". It doesn't "Roll Coal" or "Smoke like a freight Train". It's not "Turned Up". It's absolutely STOCK. It runs GREAT. It has the 47RE automatic transmission. It was "Supposedly" rebuilt. I make NO PROMISES nor do I have "Receipts" or paperwork to back this claim. It hasn't given me any trouble, and it shifts like a "Stock" 47RE. The fluid is red. It doesn't reek of being "Burnt". It's had a "Decent" paint job (NOT MY DOING). It's original color was "Fleet White". The bed is from a "Red" Dodge Ram but it was painted as well. The gauges all read. The power options all work (Windows, locks, mirrors, etc.). The "Multifunction Switch/Turn Signal switch" works 90% of the time. "Delay Wipers" do not. Easy fix, but it doesn't bother me enough to do it. Cruise control is not hooked up (I can't stand "Vacuum" cruise control) and I don't use it. Heat is "HOT". A/C is "COLD", but needs charging I believe. I don't use it. I prefer "Windows" open. Now onto the "$$" spent since I've owned it;
Steering Stabilizer-NEW and RECENT.
Oil & Fuel Filter Change-RECENT.
Brakes-REFURBISHED and RECENT.
Cummins brand 180 degree T-Stat-NEW and RECENT.
Mopar brand Transfer Case Tail Shaft Seal-NEW and RECENT.
Transfer Case Fluid Changed-NEW and RECENT.
Front Diff Rebuild-NEW and RECENT.
BOSCH Injection pump-NEW and RECENT.
Cummins Brand Drive Belt-NEW and RECENT.
Valve Adjustment-RECENT.
Systems Performance Testing-RECENT and "ABOVE Satisfactory for it's age & miles".
Now for the "Negatives";
It's currently only "2WD" due to one of the two previous owners BEFORE ME doing a "Differential Swap" and not bothering to match the gearing. The front is 4:10 and the rear is 3:56. The transfer case is clean and fully operational. It's the fact the gearing doesn't match it you can't use the "4WD". Match the gearing, (4:10/4:10=Torque. 3:56/3:56=Gas Mileage. Or whatever combination you like) and that'll fix the problem. I'm fine with "2WD" for now. The "Performance Testing" did reveal what the mechanic called; "A bellow average amount of blow by". He said; "With the age and mileage it should be far worse". The same mechanic also did the valve adjustment and said; "When I opened up the valve cover, on average I find sludge. I didn't find ANY sludge and the valves were not severely out of adjustment". His comments were; "It's a good old truck. Just drive & enjoy it". He told me the turbo spools up correctly. The engine temp and oil pressure are up to spec. And it doesn't leak excessive amounts of oil or other fluids. He also told me to expect "Oil" seepage or leaks because it happens on ALL Cummins diesels with this mileage and age unless they've been overhauled. He proceeded to tell how the "New Cummins" have "Oil Cups" to catch leaks/seepage. Another problem it has is absolutely common for "Dodge" trucks. The steering is "Vague" and "Wanders". It does NOT "Death Wobble". It cruises down the highway 70-75mph no problem EXCEPT it "Wanders" OR "Bump Steers" if you like. I'm use to that because I've driven ALOT of "Old" vehicles. Especially "Old Trucks" and it doesn't bother me. The final negative thing to note (And I honestly don't care that it does this) is the "ABS/Brake" light will come on time to time. The "Brakes" are not the problem. The problem is, once again, one of the two previous owners decided to lift the truck and found out the "ABS" sensor wire wasn't long enough to compensate. So, their solution was "Cut the wire". It's no longer "Lifted" and I don't have the parts, or etc. from said lift. So now, the "ABS/Brake" like comes on and does absolutely nothing to the brake other than make them "Non-Anti-lock" brakes. Personally, it's an "Improvement" to me. I don't like "ABS" brakes on a truck and it doesn't improve "Dodges" lame brakes. Which, I should note "Are old truck like" in nature. They will lock up. And they will do it when you're into them deep enough. Other than that, they work perfectly fine and don't pull violently to either side.
Well sorry for the "Epic" story. I just wanted to cover everything I could remember and be honest to a fault about everything. As I've stated, it's an Old truck. So it will have imperfections, etc. But over all, I enjoy it. And, I enjoy it enough that if I don't sell it, I'll just keep it and fix it up as I go. So, you're more than welcome to; "Make Offers". Or, "Message Me Offers" OR "Message Me To Ask Questions". IF you want to crawl all over it and "Check it out", or "Test Drive It" or BOTH, you're more than welcome to do so. BUT, "NO" joyrides. "NO" uninsured drivers. Just "Message Me" and we'll go from there. I appreciate you staying with me this long and considering making my ole' truck yours.
