1974 Dodge Power Wagon Power Wagon Short Bed Description

  • PLEASE READ CAREFULLY,
  • This is a Dodge Power Wagon with the divorced transfer Case. It's a 1974 W100 model, look it up if you don't know these trucks, it is pretty RARE and you will not find another one with this perfect of a body. Ever, unless you pay $50 grand to get one already done up.
  • It is a Life Time Arizona Truck. Nearly perfect metal. Very few and very minor dings. Cab corners and cab supports perfect. Cab supports are the achilles heal of these truck if you didn't know that already. Almost all of them you'll find have rotted there and the cab corners. All under mounting points are perfect. Fenders and cab metal are perfect. No bondo ever. Short bed is not beat up or rusted, does have one surface rust spot about the size of a quarter on top of bed wall on driver side, see picture. The kid who painted it did a poor job, It looks OK but he really didn't do it right, overspray and could have spent more time prepping, it's not terrible, I'd call it a 7-8. He also put a grill from a "78 on it and two LED headlights in it. I personally don't like them and would put it back to original. But then I'm more traditional that most 25 year old generation-whatever's are. The cost to change back the headlight and a 1974 grill? $200 bucks tops. Having it back to original factory and done right,,,,, priceless.
  • One of the best and heaviest 6" lift kits I've ever seen on a truck, ever. My mechanics says it done right. Brand New Hankook 33.5's all around. Chrome wheels in pretty good shape
  • Driveline gone through in the last 500 miles. New bearings on all points of the dana 44 (Front) and Dana 60 (rear) are replaced. Transfer case and differential seals replaced. New Lock out hubs. It cost me $1,000 to have the Dana's, new Warn hubs, bearing, and Transfer Case all redone.
  • New brakes installed, drums, all cylinders (Master and Wheels) new brake lines as needed. New power brake booster installed. Can convert to front disks you if wanted to but it wouldn't be original since they didn't start putting disk brakes on these Power Wagons until 1975. Which was the same year they went to the stupid full time 4x4 and ruined the later model trucks as far as I'm concerned. I spent $800 having the brake system redone at a solid mechanic shop here in Tennessee.
  • Truck has factory correct and original 360 LA motor with the Factory 4brl option. This means it came with the 2.02 / 1.60 valve HiPo heads like the 340HP Heads) which were built for Mopar muscle cars, but they also put them in some 4brl optioned Power Wagons of those years. (72-74) Dual exhaust. I've got it back to two thrush Glass Packs and they stop just half way under the bed. I couldn't decide if I wanted it to go out the sides or all the way back. So I paused and had another beer. Now you the buyer gets to chose
  • The truck had factory air conditioning, the condenser and most lines are there but the compressor and brackets are missing. Can be found and put back together since all V8 Mopars from that era used the same AC components. It doesn't have to of come off of a Power Wagon, or even a D series truck.
  • Brand new Summit Racing (correct code) Thermoquad installed and tuned. Manual Choke installed ( you would not believe how hard it is to find the original choke stove for the auto choke.) I paid $400 bucks for the Carb and another $200 to have it installed and tuned in.
  • New distributor, wires, plugs, etc. New power steering pump, New battery. I replaced valve cover gaskets. All that was about $700 dollars.

  • The dash is rough, I've been looking for a replacement and have located a couple that will work but wanted the mechanical stuff done first. The Army guy I bought this from was in Prescott AZ and had messed up the dash trying to put some techno sound system in it. He put a 200 watt amp under the seat and a blue tooth high end component sound system in it. It's still there if you want it, I think it is criminal to screw up an original classic car but I didn't press charges on him since he was serving in the Army and I happen to be a big fan of people who stand on the wall for all of us. This sound system/amp was draining the battery so I just unhooked it. It's still there if you care about that crap,, I don't, as I would rather hear that small block LA running out.
  • The visors are missing but they are 100$ at DMC Truck parts. Easy to get. The interior trim needs attention due to failed attempt by previous owner to put new vinyl covering on the cab trim.
  • The windshield has a couple of stars but no linear cracking or lines. Windshields are easily located, there are at least 5,786,987 of them in the wrecking yard down the road from your house. It should cost $100 or less to buy one. I've not replaced the windshield since you pretty much have to pull the dash to replace get a new one in. I was planning to do it all at once when I found the right donor truck with all the misc. minor parts I needed. The rest of the glass is all there, and perfect. The doors are complete with no sag or bad hinges. The door window sweeps and races are shot. I have new ones from Precision Manufacturing that come with the truck. There is a video on Precisions web site detailing the process. Looks like it takes 2-3 hours per door. The door seals are new and already on it.
  • It does have a few wiring issues in the dash due to the above mentioned idiocy around and concerning the stupid sound system. Again, I haven't tackled it because I was going to put a replacement dash in it anyway. It does not affect the way the truck runs.
  • All and all it is a good and correct code Power Wagon. Mechanically strong. Needs some cosmetics. Needs to be finished off right. I'd call it about 95% done.
  • These trucks are rare and this one is the best one I could find in the country and I looked for MONTHS and I looked EVERYWHERE. Found it in Arizona and shipped it back to Tennessee to restore. This would make a great father and son project and when it's done you'll have something that will do nothing but go up in value.I saw a black on black 1974 short bed step side listed in San Diego when I was looking for a PW and that one was pristine and perfect. Nicest one I've ever seen. It was priced at $65,000.00 and it isn't listed any longer. I don't know if the guy gut $65,000 for it, but he sold it somewhere in that range I'm sure.
  • I've got more than the reserve price in this truck now. I believe with another $2,000 - 2,500 put into it and some hours of time it would bring $20,000 at a Meacum Auction. I did, or had done, the mechanical stuff first and was getting to the punch out list of cosmetic stuff when I took a new traveling job.
  • If you are looking for a rock solid Power Wagon that needs little to be perfect this one is the starting point. You won't find another one with this nice of a body or sheet metal. It's just waiting to be finished.The truck is a non emission test truck. No required emissions testing in any State that I am aware of. Including California. If you want the coolest truck in the county this is it.
  • I thought about putting a 5.9 litre Cummins 12 valve in it. I have seen two others with that done. It works well with the divorced t-case. But a Cummins swap is above even my mad skillz.
  • I'm an upfront guy. I'm not going to refund the deposit because you were on your 5th beer and your judgement was peaking. You are not getting the deposit back if your wife get's the rag about you buying a truck. If your Dad decides not to fund this it's too bad and it's on you. You should talk to your preacher and all them others to make sure it's ok. If you want to see it in person I'll meet you at the Nashville Airport to see it and drive it.
  • If you want it delivered we can work something out. I've got a PowerStroke F250 that will haul this down, or up, the road if we make a deal on expenses / mileage. If you're between Nashville and Charleston SC It'll probably be near close to free to get it to you. If you live in the great white north, hoser, it's going to cost more. I will drive it onto an auto transporter of your choice if you live west of the Mississippi because my ex-wife lives over there and I'm not getting anywhere near that crazy shrew ever again.
