1966 Dodge Charger 22K Original Miles Big Block 727 Rust Free Desert Car
1966 Dodge Charger Description
Very nice 1966 first gen Dodge Charger. I do not have keys for this car. This is a rust free, numbers matching desert car other than items noted below. The car has 22K original miles. I have documentation from the father and son (owners 2-3) and a lead on the original owner. The car was sold and lived its life in the CA desert town of Palmdale. The original owner had street raced the car locally and blew the motor around 1985 and the car has not ran since. I had the cylinders checked by a mechanic and he said they were standard as were the original pistons in the block. There is little to no ridge at the top of they cylinders. Looking at things like brake pedal pad wear etc. it all lines up. The #'s matching engine was not pulled but the heads, intake, exhaust, carb, distro etc. are gone. Being a 383 big block (largest engine offered in 66 other than a special order 426) it will be easy to find era correct parts if you wish to go that path. Most want a 440.
Specs: 383 big block, 727 TF, 8 3/4 posi rear, power steering, power brakes, 26" rare 4 row hemi radiator, original white paint, original red interior, trim package "Charger Group 354" with day/night mirror, trunk and e-brake lights, AM radio, driver remote mirror, power steering. This car has every option other than AC and 4 spd. or clock.
Body is excellent with little to no surface rust, no rust through. No body damage other than typical door dings. Rear bumper was hit but there is NO sheet metal damage behind it. Glass is very nice, windows go up and down nicely. window regs are what you would expect with a low mileage car. They do need lube. Now, the only rust was under the trim at the bottom of the rear window. The trim was packed with fine dust and the little rain it did see pooled up. Each trim clip has a screw, each screw was skipped by the sealer guy on the production line, each screw hole rusted through. I cut a replacement filler panel from a very nice charger and welded it in. I build hot rods for a living and this is a professional repair. The rear window is loose. The stuff you see around the edges was duct tape. I removed it to photograph. I will re-duct tape the window for shipping. Because the car will need paint I didn't reinstall it. The front windshield is showing signs of the same rust on the lower trim strip. It will most likely need a similar repair. This is the only rust issue on the car. The underside is very nice. Lots of OE paint. Trunk and tire well are very nice. Floors under carpet, no rust, original paint good. Driveshaft is in the trunk. You will need a new slip yoke as it has rusted. The car has all of its trim. I will include a replacement for the small top strip from the drivers side that is dinged. The rear taillight is complete. The lens is all there but cracked like all of them. I removed the rear deck lock so ass to be able to open the trunk. The lock is included. Same with the glove box door.
Interior: this is the next reason to buy this car. Look at the pics...amazing interior. It is all original and complete. Other than...the front seats. The upper corners were sun rotted. The car had been stored inside for most of its non running life. When outside they had put window sun shades all around but the seat corners were exposed. So the door panel tops are super nice, the dash has 2 cracks that are not bad. I had Bob Abney, the retired upholsterer for the Reno NV Haraha's auto museum, hand stitch and re-upholster the seats with new foam. They are beautiful. I paid Bob $1,000 for labor. I used the correct red metallic vinyl special ordered at $270. The rear seats look like they were never sat on. You will want new carpeting as its just age rotting. The rear fold down deck, side panels etc are all very nice. All the dash parts are intact and non molested. Wiring looks un-tampered with. The glove box is open cuz you need a key to open if you shut it. Heater controls, radio, all knobs etc are nice and smooth in operation. You will need a cardboard glove box as there had been a stereo installed in it. The speaker holes in the doors are luckily bellow the trim on the panels. I would just re carpet and cover the holes. I will include the optional front sway bar I took from my parts car. The rear window trim is included. The car is intact and complete other than the engine parts noted above.
Car comes with lots of spares. Ask questions. I can e-mail more pics. There are close ups of the quarters, rockers, spares, interior etc. I took the gas tank out to boil it but its got like 5 lbs of dried gas in it. I would get a new tank. It stinks.
