2001 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Description

I bought this truck about 2 1/2 yrs ago to pull our 35 foot 5th wheel RV from a Central Florida Dodge dealer. Previous owner traded on a new 3500 Ram. Had 153,000 when I got it. Truck bone stock when I got, very nice but needed some love. Love it got. About the time I was done going through it and upgrading we bought a New 40 foot 5th wheel. Althoughthis truck hauled it just fine on flat or Mountains I wanted dual wheels as we are planning on soon traveling the USA. So I just bought a new Ram 3500 dually. The truck needs a new home.
For those unaware The High Output or HO 5.9 Cummins 2500 manual trans came factory in 2001 with a 1 ton Dana 80 rear axle. This truck has Firestone rear air bag system, on board compressor controlledfrom cab with gauge to level when loaded. Trailer brakecontrollerincluded. These trucks are built to haul heavy loads. Very popular truck for hauling and longevity. Taken care of properly Half million miles expected. Its rated by dodge at 13,700 trailer weight. Payload 2590. It has 3.55 gears. It averages in town about 15 mpg highway 19 to 20 empty. Hauling average 11 to 12 mpg.

First thing I did was ball joints top and bottom, tie rod ends, front brakes, front end alignment. While ball joints being done added a 1 1/2 inch level kit to springs. New Rancho 7000 shock all around.I installed full set of gauges on A Pillar. Fuel Pressure,Exhaust temp,Boost pressure. Also boost elbow, increases boost a little. Truck has never had a tuner on it. Also a Airdog Raptor fuel lift pump.
Last year we took a trip to Colorado with Truck and RV so before going New belt, Antifreezechanged, hoses changed, new radiator cap and new thermostate. Rear hubs pulled new seals installed. New rotors, calipers and brake pads rear done. Transmission drained looked in, clean as can be new Amsoil Synthetic gear lube. Rear diff cover pulled also clean, New Royal Purple gear lube synthetic fluid. The valves adjusted on Cummins. I run Royal Purple syn in engine also. This truck was run through New Orleans in June out through Texas, New Mexico with temps up to 108*, coolant runs 190* constant AC blasting Cold pulling 40 foot 5th wheel. The clutch fan cycled some but thats it. Ran perfect and got 11 mpg. I also put 4 new 285/75R16 Michelin'stires on truck. They have 5000 miles on them. AC ice cold. I know I have forgotten some stuff.
I had, when I purchased this truck a 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 V10. To say bad on fuel understatement. About 7 mpg always. It had only 35000 mi when I found. No wonder huh. Sport Options, nice, like new leather interior. The 2500 was cloth. Before the 3500 sold I put the whole interior from V10 in to the 2500. sold the V10 with cloth interior. My point is this truck has the nicest leather interior you could get in these trucks and its in excellentcondition. Looks like new. Carpet perfect. I put the molded floor liners in front and back also. Sharp truck inside and out. One crack in dash with nice cover from Geno's Garage. Also cup holder from Geno's on center arm rest.
The bad which really is not. These truck had had a tendencyfor bottom of doors to rust on inside between crimp at bottom hidden behind rubber strip. When I got the truck driver side was in nice shape, no issues. Passenger side I replaced the passenger door rather than bondo it. It was rusted pretty good on inside bottom and had been fixed once. I found a nice clean Floridadonor truck and bought 3 doors, thats all that was on truck. Both back doors and the passenger door. Rust free. Had painted replaced front passenger side so no longer issue. The rear on passenger side will need done also at some point. There is bondo in it also. But I have both good doors from donor. Dont need driver side but both go with truck. No other rust or body work on truck that I can find. Originalpaint and it shines nice. Truck had to be under cover. No fading on top. Clear coat is nice. Polishes up nice.
Finally. I put some serious dollars in this truck to make dependable and nice to drive and tow with. It proved itself to me and then some. If you cant tell I love these old dodge trucks. I know them inside and out. I have had a few. 4 in my yard now as we speak. This one needs a good home. If you are looking for something to tow an RV on a budget, this is the truck you want. 2500 rides nice empty, good mileage. Cummins power. For the right offer Im leaving a 16,000 lb 5th wheel hitch in truck. Wont fit my New 3500. I wont mention what a new 3500 Ram Crew cab 4x4 cost with Cummins, makes me cry. I just bought one. Everything works as it should, no idiot lights or codes. 80 lbs oil pressure. No oil use or blow by. Ok enough, see pictures, send questions. Happy to answer.
