1999 Dodge Ram 2500 Description

1999 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 5 Speed, 24 valve 5.9 cummins turbo diesel. These trucks are getting harder and harder to find in good shape and not modified to death. This 1999 5 speed is a great truck with few modifications such as a Power Puck for better towing, a K & N air filter, and a great Kenwood unit. Other than that it is as it came from the factory. I did a lot of research before I purchased this truck. I knew I wanted 1999-2001 truck as well as I wanted a standard transmission for best mileage as well as the standard came stock with more power than the automatic. From 1998-2000 the manual truck had 40 more foot pounds of torque than the automatic. Since my goal was only simple mods, Intake, exhaust and puck I wanted to start with the best platform possible. With the 5 speed vs the 6 speed I had less shifting to do and I knew with my basic upgrades would be just the ticket for regular driving or pulling my toy hauler.

It had a new transfer case put in under warranty from previous owner. I have replaced the clutch, pressure plate, and throughout bearing this last summer. There are no problems with the truck. Suspension is fine with no problems, drive train and 4 wheel drive works great, runs like a top. Bad is since moving to Florida it is starting to develop a crack on the dash which sounds like a common issue with these trucks. Also the overhead console where it holds the garage door opener has a broken latch. Stays us but annoys me so I put tape on it. The drivers side rear bumper has a dent in it. See pictures.

For a great truck with the motor most people want, unmolested, unmodified 5.9 liter turbo diesel with a 5 speed, this is the truck to have. Last look on ebay for 1997 – 2002 Dodge 5 spd, 4X4 diesel there were only 5. Lowest price $12,000 with 280,000 miles and many mods and extra gauges. To a $29,600 low mileage, nice truck. There is a reason people keep these. And remember this 5 speed 4x4 gets 20 mpg towing my race car. If you’re looking for great gas mileage and the Cummins and the model motor that everyone wants this is it. If you enjoy purchasing from a dealer then they were both from a dealer. Me personally I avoid dealers. I want to talk to the person who owned it and get the story behind the vehicle.
