2012 Dodge Ram 3500 ST Description

Up for bid in this auction is a metallic silver 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 ST Dually that we purchased new in December of 2012 when it only had 14 miles on it. This truck now has 199,984 miles on it.

This truck has the 6 speed automatic transmission with the Non-DEF required High Output 6.7L Intercooled Cummins Diesel.

This truck will be ready to go to work or play when the new owner arrives to pick it up.This truck has a fresh service (32 miles ago) including new fuel filter. It will come with both fuel tanks full of fuel! We will make sure that all air pressures are correct in all of the tires. This truck is parked at our home and it will not be driven by anyone until the new owner arrives to pick it up!

As you can see by our Ebay feedback we have always been totally honest about any item we have ever listed as a seller. Regardless if it is good or bad we will tell it like it is and not try to hide or intentionally leave out known problems just so we can sell it. We want who ever buys anything from us to be 110% happy with what they get from us. Therefore we will understate the condition of the item instead of over exaggerating it. We treat other folks the way we want to be treated ourselves!

We have included a lot of information and photos of this truck to help you to have a better understanding of it in case you are considering buying it. Please take the time to read our descriptions and to look at all of the photos we have provided. Do your research to make sure that this truck is indeed what you want and need. We do want you to be totally happy with it!

With all of that said then here we go!

Story/history of this truck.

My wife and I are both from the Law Enforcement community. She is a retired county police officer and I am now making the transition to retirement myself. Late in 2012 my wife and I were looking for a truck that we could pull an RV trailer for traveling once we fully retired. I had a couple of friends that had recently purchased new 2013 Dodge diesels. They all loved the trucks except for the fact that they now had to deal with the DEF application. I did some research and found out that out of all of the truck manufacturers Dodge was the last to make the transition to having all of their trucks using DEF starting with their 2013 model year. With that in mind I started a search to see if I could possibly locate a new 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 that did not require the DEF. We live in Virginia and I was able to find a dealership located in North Carolina that still had a couple of new 2012 models on their lot. So it was off to North Carolina we went and we purchased this 2012 truck new with only 14 miles on it. So this is one of the last/newest trucks you will find that does not require DEF!

This truck runs now as good as it did new. We have always had the truck and engine serviced on regular intervals. We have never had to add any oil or fluids to any of the components between services. It has plenty of power regardless of the size of the trailer that you have behind you. Interstate hills are not an issue for this truck. With the 6 speed automatic and HO Cummins you can just set the cruise and ride. The engine brake on these Cummins engines are really nice. On most downhills even with a trailer you rarely need to apply much footbrake to prevent overspeed.

After we purchased this truck in December of 2012 one of our friends who owns a high end trailer dealership offered us a part time opportunity. Our friend knew that my wife and I had owned a trucking company for about 15 years. He knew that we were knowledgeable of the trucking industry and operations as well as the U.S. DOT rules and regulations. For the next 4 years we would go and pick up a new trailer at the factory for our friend on occasion. Since I was still working and not yet retired we only moved my friends trailers on a part time basis when we could.

My wife and I set our goal/limit to retire once this truck reached the 200,000 mile mark. So here we are!

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

We have always worked hard to take the best care of this truck as we could. We always parked it where it would have the minimal chance of being damaged by stupid people who throw their doors open without regards of others. As you can see both sides of this truck are in great shape as a result.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This truck has almost 200,000 miles in just about every type of weather and traffic condition you can imagine so it has the unavoidable road debris little dings that come with those miles. All things considered as you can hopefully see it is still in really nice shape and still looks good.

This is the High Output 6.7L Cummins with 800plus foot pounds of torque. It is a great running beast! When we drive this truck from central Virginia to northern Indiana without a trailer we average between 17.5 and 18.5 MPG. When we bring back trailers we average between 10 and 12 MPG depending on the weight and design of the trailer.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This truck has Tow Mirrors. These mirrors will fold/ hinge down and in when not needed for towing. They will also swing/hinge in, next to the door when additional clearance is needed.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This picture is right out of the owners manual that comes with this truck. As you can see this truck is manufacturer rated to pull up to 22,700lbs and has a in bed payload of up to 5,130lbs.

Fully loaded with fuel, personal items, two people and tools this truck weighs around 8,000lbs.

This truck will come ready to go and work. It will have both fuel tanks full of fuel and air pressures in all of the tires will be correct. We just had this truck serviced including new fuel filter. Since it was serviced we have only driven it home from the NAPA service center (32 miles). This truck was serviced on 3/23/17 at 199,952 miles. According to the NAPA service center the next service will be due at 209,952.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This truck came from the factory with a fuel tank that holds approx. 35 U.S. gallons of diesel fuel. We have added an all aluminum auxiliary fuel tank that holds an additional 45 U.S. gallons of diesel fuel. The auxiliary tank automatically feeds the main tank. There are no valves to open or switches to flip. The trucks fuel gauge will simply read full until the auxiliary tank is empty, then the gauge will show the remaining fuel level in the primary tank until it is empty. As you can see we have installed a hinged lockable lid/cover above the auxiliary fuel tank inlet. This is designed to deter someone who wants an easy place to steal fuel. The fuel cap on the aux. tank will also lock if you want it to.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This truck has a spacious front seat interior area with all controls convenient to the driver's seat. This truck has a built-in factory stereo which includes AM/FM/CD/XM Sat. PLEASE NOTE: The XM Satellite currently is not activated and would have to be activated by new owner if they so desire.

All controls work properly. Heat/AC work very well, as they should.

Each of the four doors have deep storage compartments.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

We removed the stock center console and fabricated a platform between the front seats so we could have a nice place for our travel cooler to sit. We covered the platform with carpet that matches the color of the truck's interior and it looks good. We did not make any structural changes to the truck to mount this platform. If you want to reinstall the original console all you have to do is remove the platform and sit the original console in place and screw it down. The seat belts for the third front seat are still in place as you can see in some of the photos.

We removed the center console early in 2013. We wrapped it up for protection and placed it in safe storage so as you can see in these photos it is still in excellent condition and of course comes with this truck.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

We noticed early on with some large gooseneck trailers we would have some bounce in the rear of this truck on some of the bad condition interstate roads we travelled. We purchased and installed a Firestone rear axle air ride system on this truck which completely eliminated the problem and smoothed out the ride with all trailers and road condition. At first we used a manual inflate/deflate system but then we replaced it with an onboard compressor, lighted air gauge and control lever. You can now monitor and adjust the ride pressure from the driver or front passenger seat as you ride down the road. This system works great and gives this truck a very smooth and comfortable ride.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

We have installed and mounted a NavsGo GPS system on the dash in view and in reach of the driver. The NavsGo has a large 7" touch screen display for easy use and navigation. This unit also comes with a rear mounted camera which we mounted on the large tool box in the truck bed. In this location the camera makes it easier for the driver to hookup/lineup the coupling/neck on a gooseneck to the ball in the truck bed. We also mounted two white work lights on the inside of the bed on each side to help see the inside bed area on the camera at night.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This truck has a spacious rear seat with nice storage space under the fold up seat. We basically only used this seat for our luggage and personal items on our trips. We always had a blanket over the seat for protection. The seat is still in great shape. The back window has a curtain, as you can see in the pictures.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

There is an in-floor storage box under the rear floor mat on each side of this truck.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

We are including a charged fire extinguisher and a new box of 3 red DOT triangles with this truck.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

You will get two sets of keys and three padlocks with this truck as shown. Both remotes work great as they are designed.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

We purchased a new fiberglass Leer Aerodyne cap painted to match this truck in 2013 before we ever considered pulling trailers for our friend. We only had the cap on the truck for about a month or two before we had to remove it so we could pull gooseneck trailers. We made a special storage stand for it like you see in these pictures and that is where it has spent about 95% of its life. It is still in great shape. Shortly after we put the cap on our truck we decided to black out the windows with paint on the interior side of the windows. From the outside it looks like it has really dark tinted windows. The paint can be removed with a single edge razor blade. We did this because on occasion we were keeping some very expensive equipment in the back of the truck and we wanted to keep it from view.

PLEASE NOTE - We will take $500.00 off of the winning bid if the winning bidder decides that they do not need or want this truck cap.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

There is a large lockable steel storage box bolted down behind the auxiliary fuel tank. The box is approximately 22' wide X 46" long X 23" deep. The outside of the box has been coated with LINE-X for long life protection.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This truck comes with three hitches. One is the in bed mounted removable ball used with gooseneck trailers. As you can see in these photos the ball can be quickly released and removed. You can also purchase a 5th wheel adapter like the one that is listed on Ebay as item #262743767023 for $914.00 with free shipping. This truck DOES NOT come with a 5th wheel adapter.

As you can see we have installed a double hitch/receiver set up on the back of this truck. The reason we did this was because we were moving some high end living quarters bumper pull trailers that had a heavier than normal tongue weight. To compensate for the additional weight and to have "peace of mind" we added the second heavy duty hitch and had a double ball mount made that would insert into both of the receivers at the same time. The double receiver also makes it nice for making quick height changes with the single heavy duty ball mount. As you can see both of these bumper ball mounts are made of heavy duty solid steel. We do not use the cheaper and weaker square tube ball mounts. The heavy duty single and double ball mounts with 2&5/16" balls that you see in the photos will come with the truck.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

We have installed a 120 volt engine warmer plug on this truck. It is a vehicle specific plug and cable setup. As you can see we have installed the weather proof plug on the front bumper for ease of use and access. This truck has always, even down around zero degrees, started first time and every time even without the use of this warmer. We use the pre-heat system when it gets really cold just so it will be better for the engine having some heat already in it when it is started.

This truck has two heavy duty tow hooks mounted within the front bumper.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

We have installed rain guards on all four door windows. We installed heavy duty mud flap/guards behind the front and rear tires. We also installed full cab length nerf/step bars below the doors.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This truck comes with three trailer power plugs. One is mounted on the rear inside of the bed on the drivers side. This plug is for use with gooseneck and 5th wheel applications. The other two plugs are mounted on the bumper near the license plate. One of these plugs is the standard four wire plug and the other is the standard seven wire plug.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

BRAKES - we were told by Chrysler on a recent service that they checked all of the brakes and found that the front brakes are around 60% and the rear are around 50%

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

This truck has like new tires on the front. The four rear tires are +/- 50%.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

We recently purchased 4 new Firestone LT235/80R17 Transforce HTs to put on the rear of this truck before we put it up for sale. Since there is still a lot of miles remaining on the present tires we have decided to leave those on and include the new Firestones with the truck. So now the new owner can run the rear tires until they are ready for change and then they will have four new high quality Firestone HTs as replacements.

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

I said in the beginning I would talk about the good and bad.....so here are the problems that I know of. As you can see in some of the photos the rear center caps are missing on the rear wheels. One night recently in Ohio I guess someone decided they needed them more than we did so they decided to take them. I don't think they look bad like they are so I just never bothered to replace them. This truck has a 40 channel CB radio. We rarely ever used the radio and when we did it was only good for very short range. It is a quality radio with a quality antenna but it has never been professionally set up so it needs something to get it right. Last but not least......there is an Information ("I code”) that shows on the dash. It first came on about 125,000 miles ago. I took it to Chrysler and had them check it. They told me that it is a reminder that a valve that is part of the emissions control should be serviced. I ask them if it has any effect on the engine or its performance. They told me that it will not. They said that most people do not spend the money to have the service done unless they live in a state, city or county where a truck like this has to have a yearly emissions test. We do not have to have trucks like this tested here where we live in Virginia. We want to bring this to everyone's attention so that you can check and decide if this may be a issue for you BEFORE you bid. This truck does not smoke and it runs like new and for a truck with the power it has it gets great fuel mileage. That is the only issues we know of.
