1982 Ferrari 308 Description

If you have always admired and wanted a Ferrari 308, and have thought that the recent price increases have made them out of reach, this might be just the car for you. For sale here is a well maintained good looking Ferrari 308 Driver. If you are seeking a perfect showpiece that, like the car in Ferris Bueller, only gets rubbed with a diaper and stored in a glass garage, this is not that kind of car. This car has been maintained, driven moderately, and enjoyed. If you are shopping for a 308, this car has had the maintenance items you would want done attended to. The timing belts and bearings are new, the clutch is new, the original metric wheels have been updated with replacements that can use modern tires, the car makes use of a new improved gear reduction starter, the fuse boxes have been updated, the list goes on.

The car is now in North Alabama, and the two owners prior to myself were in Texas and Arkansas. The car was repainted in about 1990 and shows some nicks and chips not unexpected for a 26 year old paint job. The is presentable as it is now, but a quality respray would certainly improve it a few notches.

The good:
  • Extensive maintenance records
  • Popular grigio over tan combo
  • New clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and rear main seal installed April, 2016.
  • Engine is very clean
  • Ansa exhaust - sounds like a Ferrari!
  • New oil pan stat-o-seals and stainless acorn nuts, applied with blue locktite
  • Clean original interior, leather has not been redyed and looks good with a small bit of visible wear on the drivers side bolster
  • Birdman Fuseblocks installed
  • Verell's cooling system bleed screw
  • Timing belts and water pump replaced in late 2014, includes bearings from Hill Engineering (best ones made)
  • Idles, runs, drives, shifts, and stops as it should.
  • Original Italian leather interior still smells *so* nice.

New or Updated items over past few years:

  • Clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, pilot bearing, trans and engine oil
  • Timing belts, bearings, water pump, and coolant
  • New upholstery fabric by rear window and on inside of targa top - original fabric from Re Originals
  • Rear exhaust cover
  • Ash tray (but car was not smoked in)
  • Steering wheel
  • Radiator - recored original, no overheating issues!
  • Reproduction QV 16" wheels wheels with Kuhmo tires in the 328 sizes (eliminates expensive metric tires)
  • Birdman fuse boxes - more reliable electrics
  • Cooling system bleed screw from Verell Boan - easier to bleed cooling system
  • new gear-reduction starter, lighter weight and better than the original

I've gotten a number of compliments on the car. Most appreciate that the car is not red! This color really grew on me as I was shopping for a 308.

This shows the new muffler cover, although the Ansa exhaust doesn't take up as much room as the original.

Factory tools, jack, spare belts, and bulb holder

Grigio is the original color, and a popular choice still seen on newer models for those who don't want red.

Car has Hella E-code H4 headlights

Embossed headrests was purportedly an option. When you leave the roof on the car, the inside still has that wonderful Italian leather smell.

Last fall I installed the Birdman fuse blocks with circuit breakers for the power windows. The car was working fine, but other 308 owners said this was a prudent upgrade to prevent electrical problems down the road.

All gauges work. Once warm, oil pressure looks to be around 35psi at idle, and around 80psi when driving.

The previous owner had this stereo installed. It sounds nice, but it really doesn't look right in the car to me. The stereo-shop installed wiring has a fault (not the factory harness), so the radio is disconnected now. The engine makes better music anyway!

Very nice interior, but there is a tear on the console by the handbrake, and the floor mats want to wrinkle up under your feet.

A new gear-reduction starter from Gustafson Machine. This starter starts the car more quickly, more quietly, and with less current draw than the original.

    Original manuals and leather binder

    Many years of maintenance records

The camera had trouble focusing on this because of the patterned material, but this is factory reproduction material from re-originals and matches the upholstery around the rear window. Previous owner told me this was $300 in fabric, and that doesn't include installation.

These are the new window accelerators from Rodney Dickman, these are not yet installed.

This is the new right lower door skin. It is probably overkill for the small bit of rust that is there, but I'm insistent on fixing things the right way.

This is the small rust bubble on the right door.

This is the smaller bubble on the right rear quarter.
