1996 Mustang SVT Cobra
104,000 miles
Owned since Oct. 2003, with 80,000 miles
Only put 1,000-3,000 miles per summer, & only in the dry (unless caught by surprise, typically averages 1,500-2,000 miles per year).Climate controlled garage kept when not in use.
Only used Mobil 1 Synthetic since I've owned it, & changed every 3,000 miles or once per year, whatever comes first (usually the calendar).
Many mods, & includes lots of spare & original part, including manuals, SVT certificate, documentation, ceiling banner, etc.Need to bring a truck along to haul everything that goes along with it!
Exterior
Front
- smoked one piece headlight & corner lights

Cooling system
- 180 deg. F thermostat
- Reprogrammed fan low & fan high turn on temperatures to coincide with thermostat via SCT
- 2003 Cobra Terminator SC radiator & cooling fan (over 2" larger in diameter to stack fan) to provide improved cooling.
- 1996 was first year of the 4.6L 4V engine in a Mustang & first year of "bottom feeder" cooling, so factory had some cooling issues - no problems since I re-engineered & upgraded system.
Exhaust System
- Ceramic coated thick flange shorty headers.tubes to flanges reinforced.Flange surface finished for improved sealing.
- Premium header gaskets.
- Stage 8 locking header bolt system for improved sealing reliability
- Magnaflow high flow catted X-pipe, with extra O2 sensor bungs added in for wide band sensor during ECU recalibration efforts.Can install sensor for real time monitoring.
- Bosch oxygen sensors
- Magnaflow cat back exhaust
Suspension System
Front
- "New" ball joints
- Ford Racing "C" springs
- Bilstein non-adjustable struts
- Prothane upper strut isolators
- Prothane spring isolators (upper & lower)
- Steeda billet sway bar mount (increased rigidity over factor stamped steel versions. Owner modified to accept Prothane greaseable bushings for reduced friction with improved rigidity.
- PowerGrid adjustable spherical sway bar end links, provides improved rigidity, lower friciton, & allows adjusting corner weights for improved handling.
- Steeda bump steer tie rod ends
- Seals-It rod ends seals at all spherical rod end points (sway bar end links, bump steer ends) for improved protection & wear.
- Polyurethane offset rack bushing for improved suspension geometry with lowered suspension.
- Ford Accessories strut tower "beauty" cover (used on '99-up Mustangs, but not standard on this era.
Rear
- BBK boxed upper control arms, with greaseable polyurethane front (body end) bushings.
-"New" Ford Service rear (@ rear end housing) upper control arm bushings.Combined with upper control arms provides improved handling control with less harshness than full poly.
- SVE ride height adjustable control arms, with spherical end bushings on front (body) mount, & polyurethane bushings at rear (rear end housing brackets).
Rear Axle
- 3.73:1 rear gear.All new bushings & seals.Perfect gear ration combination for all around use (have stock 3.27:1 that goes with sale).
- 30mm H&R Spring hub-centric rear wheel spacers - place wheel in relation to fender identical to fronts (from factory, with Coke bottle rear quarter panels, the rear tires were recessed in & looked odd - now with spacers & lowered stance looks tough!)
Tires & Wheels
- less that 6,000 miles on BFGoodrich KDW tires in stock size (245/45x17)
- original wheels, with "New" center caps
- Chrome aftermarket lug nuts (originals had a stamped dress covering, that would come off).New lugs are 3/4" hex & allows removal of wheel without removing & damaging center caps).
Brakes
- Front PBR "Cobra" lettered calipers powdercoated (black & letters exposed) & calipers rebuilt last year.
- Rotors & pads at all four corners are probable 75-90% wear intact.
- Russell braided steel brake hoses at all four corners.
- Powder coated (silver) front disc brake dust shields
Interior
- Drivers seat belt replaced (original had a week retraction spring)
- Seat belt seat guides replaced with '99-04 style for better positioning/control)
- Drivers seat back retractor replaced
- drivers lumbar bladder replaced (old one leaked down)
- Coin holder removed & aftermarket "SVT"lettered block off plate added
- Fog light switch replaced (original indicator light burned out)
- Drivers side window switch replaced
- Headlight knob replaced (Armor All cleaning wipes removed inked graphics on original knob!)
- HVAC outer vents seals replaced (owner fabricated), as old foam was deteriorated & spitting out)
- HVAC & radio center bezel replaced (due to vent issues).
- Drivers side armrest/door pull pocket replaced, due to wear marks from use.
- Comes with Autometer 3-gauge A-pillar gauge pod (not installed) for additional gauges
-2003-2004 Cobra factory Ford floor mats with embroidered Cobra emblem.
Transmission/Drivetrain
- King Cobra clutch
- Owner rebuilt T45 trans, with upgraded Ford Service shifter forks, additional reworked by owner in a 3-step stress relief process(ground down forging flashing, sanded down, & sandblasted) for improved strength.
- "New" U-joints
- Pro-5.0 billet short throw shifter, with adjustable shift stops.
- 2001 Ford factory Bullitt aluminum shift knob
Other
- Tinted side & rear window by previous owner (was going to remove them, but looked good with black paint & stance).
- Complete set of Ford service manuals
- SVT certificate
- 1 of only 1376 cars made with this color & interior for this model year, of 10.002 total Cobras.

- set of gold "C" "O" "B" "R" "A" individual letters to go o the inset "COBRA" on rear valance, that were purchased but never installed.
- Car cover
- Two sets of keys & remote key fob, one with cast SVTOA key chain, & the other with Cobra emblem key chain (similar to grille emblem & fender emblems, only smaller).
- All stock removed parts, plus some aftermarket parts tried, & some NOS parts purchased for future as needed.Including buying new or used parts for those not on car or modified when I bought it, so could return to stock if desired (examples: original airbox housing was modified to create an open element filter, but actually drew in warm air from engine bay! ; cat back exhaust was modified by previous owner, so I bought original mufflers & tail pipes).
Probably much more that I can't remember.Bring a truck to take back everything that goes with the car!
Never planned to sell car, but purchased a new one, so I can't justify keeping both.
