1928 Real Steel 5 window coupe
This 1928 Model A Coupe started it early years cruising the streets of Boise, Idaho before it was parked for nearly 60 years. The coupe was chopped a sick 8" with the assistance of our pals from Wrecked Metals.
The frame was sold and replaced by a custom design made from 2"x 3" rectangular tubing. The frame was Z'd approximately 3.5" up front and 17" in the rear and fully gusseted throughout. A mild bronze metallic powder coat was applied to finalize the chassis. The front axle is a dropped I beam shod with 39' Lincoln drum brakes and softened with Houdaille Shocks.
The suicide front end is set on Posies springs and 1941 heavy duty split wishbones. The brand new Walker four core radiator sits above the front end and is cooled with the help of a high volume electric fan. The coupe is powered by a brand new rebuilt Chevy 355 completed by Moffitt & Bratton Racing engines in Boise Idaho. The engine is decked out with all of the fancy speed parts including a Comp Cams Thumper Cam and new Tri-Power carb setup for that nostalgic look.
Custom headers fitted with motorcycle baffles make for a great sounding hot rod. The headers are interchangeable from side to side to give the up or down orientation.
The engine powers a Turbo 350 recently rebuilt with a high performance shift kit and operated with a Lokar shifter and linkage. The rear end is out of a 70's chevy and fits perfectly under the back of the car. A custom parking brake through the floor keeps this baby parked in place when not in motion. The fuel of choice is housed in a custom 10.5 gallon gas tank that fits nicely between the frame rails and is filled through a vintage gas cap mounted on the roof.
The coupe is driven by a perfectly fitting 70's boat steering wheel that connects to a similar vintage Mopar steering box giving it the attractive cowl steering setup. The wheels are brand new Wheel Vintiques steelies with stainless steel beauty rings and covered in new Cokers all around. A brand new wiring harness mounted behind a custom 1955 Buick Dash runs the electrical system throughout. The dash also includes a custom glove box and new gauges and switches.
Custom tuck-n-roll seats from the folks at Fine Auto Trim make for a nice comfortable seat while cruising down the road. The removable roof insert and soon to be completed door panels complement the nostalgic look of this rod. This hot rod is a blast to drive and is known to scare old grannies walking their dogs down the street. While it is always a hit a local shows it does just fine on an evening cruise or parked in the garage. Build pictures are available for the inquiring mind.
