So this little truck is chopped about 3”, lots of Ford steel and is almost too nice to call a rat rod. Florida Titled as a 1988 Built From Parts, I have had the truck since 2008.
I bought the body, frame and suspension partially started and built the truck with all new brakes, wiring, gauges, fuel lines, suspension parts etc. Bucket seats are out of a Chevy Colbalt and are adjustable. I upgraded the engine and suspension (new shocks, bushings, Moser axles w/new bearings) in 2012 as well. I moved to North Florida December 2013 and have not drove it much since the move. I cannot get it to my new house due to dirt roads, the truck only has a 4” ground clearance and is being stored at a friends house. The speedometer quit working right when I moved to North Flordia, but the odometer was at 22,000 miles when I installed the blower motor. It looks to me like the clip that holds the speedo gear in place in the back of the trans broke or come off and the gear will not engage the cable drive anymore. I no longer have access to a lift to pull the back of the transmission off to fix it. I estimate l about 4,000 miles on the motor since it was rebuilt. There is a three trumpet train horn, with compressor and tank, compressor works but needs a new hose between the compressor and the tank. Windshield motor works sometimes, mostly when it is not raining . Stereo is setup for Sirius Sat radio, but does not always work. Must be a loose wire behind the dash as you can bang on it and get it to work most of the time. Passenger side window has had a crack as long as I have owned the truck and has not gotten any worse. Fuel guage works but reads in reverse because VDO uses reverse resistance and I have an original style sending unit in the tank. There is not a ton of leg room, but I am 6’ 1” 220lbs and have no problems. Original cowl vent, window regulators and door hardware. Other than that, everything works. Runs great, has never been hot but it will get warm if you do parade duty on really hot days. A fan shroud and or eletric fan would bea good addition. Has strong oil pressure and runs between 15”-20” vacuum under 3,000rpm and gets about 20 mpg if you keep it under 3,000 rpm and not make boost. Cruises along at 65mph around 2,500rpm and is a lot of fun to drive, just watch out for speed bumps.
The truck comes with a pile of reciepts adding up to more than $11,000 in parts (dealer cost) and spec sheets for all the parts in the motor. The motor was built by a friends hi performance shop and I participated in the entire build. I have included one of the dyno sheets from the breakin/tuning of the motor in the photos. You will not have to “guess” at what you are buying here. Wieand designed the blower/cam/carb combo based on the measured displacement of the heads and cylinder bore. The only parts on the motor that were not new were the heads, block and crank. Everything thing else was brand new. Engine is Gen I, 283 bored .040 over. Crank is turned .010 under. Block mains were line bored and honed. Block was decked .010”. Heads were completely redone and have 1.90” exhasut and 1.50” intake with all Comp springs and valve hardware. ARP bolts throughout. It is a rat rod, floors are solid but has some rust holes in cab and fenders, cracks, repairs, welds, minor oil leaks, chipped paint, scratches, dents mixed matched hardware etc etc. Check the pictures and look at the videos.
