1986 Ford Mustang SVO Turbo (Cobra, Shelby, Saleen)
1986 Ford Mustang Description
For sale is a 1986 Ford Mustang SVO Turbo. This is one of 157 SVO's in this option for this year. The build date was 02-03-1986. This car has been registered with the SVO Club of America and has lived its entire life in Ohio. We originally purchased the car to do a custom conversion, but upon further reflection we decided that this car was too nice for what we had planned and instead purchased an 84 SVO for our project. As you can see from the pictures, our family owns many Mustangs and classic Fords, and we consider this car to be in line with our other cars. I will try to accurately list the positives and negatives of the car to the best of my ability. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Car History- We purchased the car early this summer. Since purchase, we've put approximately 750 miles on the car without issue. The car cruises comfortably at 70 mph. It starts, idles, and shifts perfectly. I've been in a Saleen SSC and this car handles better by far. We've changed the oil and put a new battery in it- but that's been it. It had, we believe, 2 owners prior to our purchase. Both owners lived in Ohio. The car will come with a large binder full of documentation from when the car was first purchased. It has receipts, work orders, etc.
Positives- The interior of the car looks fantastic for an 86. No stains, smells, or tears on the seats, dash, or door panels. The clock even works. It has an aftermarket Alpine CD player and amp (located in the trunk). The car has Dunlop tires, which look to be in good condition. The car has an aftermarket Spearco intercooler, aftermarket air intake system, and aftermarket pillar gauge pod (reads Boost and Fuel PSI). The sunroof does not leak and opens easily. The previous owner had the Koni shocks rebuilt, new bushings installed front and back, Eibach lowering springs installed, and Maximum Motorsports sub-frame connectors installed. The car has a great stance for a Fox Body. The wheels show well for the most part, but they do have some minor scratching. All gauges and lights work.
Negatives- The paint has some chipping and spiderwebbing. The only "major" problem with the paint is a cracked ground effect right in front of the rear driver's side wheel. I have included a picture to show the damage. My best guess is that someone lowered a jack onto it. It's not immediately noticeable, but it's still there. Same thing with the spider webbing around the front bumper- it's not obvious when you first look at the car, but upon further inspection you can definitely see it. There are also several chips and 1 or 2 scratches that have been repaired using touch up paint. These are difficult to see, but a trained eye can still see them. The upper wing does have 1 crack, but it's been painted with touch up paint. The underside of the hood has some spots where it looks like there has been something hot (possibly the battery) touching it, but it does not show through to the top of the hood. There is only one dent in the car- it's a small spot on the middle of the driver's side door. It appears that someone hit it with a door in a parking lot. The final issue is the shift knob- it appears to be worn in places. It doesn't look terrible, but it's far from new. The A/C compressor is not installed, but all the hardware (brackets and hose) is in the trunk and will be included in the sale. I have several additional pictures of the paint that I'd be happy to distribute upon request.
Overall, the car is a solid example of a 86 SVO. It's not perfect, but it runs and handles great and is a great conversation piece at Mustang shows. I would not hesitate to drive the car long distances. Bidders that would like to see the car in person are welcome to get in touch with me to make arrangements for a test drive/tour.
Best of luck to all bidders.
