If you are not familiar with this type of car, it is a 1988 Merkur Scorpio. It is a German made Ford, rear wheel drive hatchback.
If you need more information on what this car is take a look online.
Don't let the photos fool you. It is not as nice in person, as the photos show. This car is close to parts car, but it can be brought back with some effort, time, and money.
That being said, I will not let it be driven away for safety reasons. It needs to be towed from my property. It is located about 30 minutes outside of Chicago.
The car does run and drive and is complete. I have a clean title for it. I purchased it from the 2nd owner. It has been in this area its entire life. It was stored outside with a tarp for at least the past three years. It has 149k miles.
The car is black with grey leather interior. It is fully loaded with an automatic and a sunroof.
As stated above it is not a daily driver. It needs work. Here is a brief description of this vehicle. And a rating from 1-10 for condition, based on a typical vehicle that is 30 years old.
Interior -- 5/10- Best part of the car,
The front leather seats have bolster wear with some splits. This car has the rare air inflating bolsters as seen in the photos. Center arm rest worn. Dash looks good and has a couple of small cracks. Some wood cracked. Door panels are undamaged and look good. Original radio and all options still present. All power windows work. Sunroof does not. Rear seats look great. The power function on the rear seats still works. Cargo area has light wear and still has parcel shelf and net. Spare and tool present. Carpets and headliners have some staining, but may clean up. Original owner's manual and a couple sets of keys are included.
Exterior -- 3/10
This car is a Midwest car. It has some rust in the quarters as seen in photos. Left rocker has some rust. This rust should be able to clean it up. The car has had some previous paintwork. The black paint needs a good buffing. There are areas with light fading, a few cracks, and scratches. Right fender has light damage on the front corner. There are a couple of additional small rust spot here and there that are the size of an eraser head. Dent in the roof and the hood is wavy. Front bumper cracked. Fog lights are present, but both are missing lenses and do not work. Turn signals are misaligned. All the glass is intact and free of any cracks or chips. All four tires should be replaced as they are mismatched and should be considered rollers only. The rims look pretty good with some surface wear. All four center caps are present and need refinishing. I took the hood badge off so it would not get lost.
Engine 2/10
The car runs, drives, and stops. I have only moved the car around at low speeds. Every soft or rubber part under the hood or car should be inspected. The brakes do stop, but not well. The entire brake system needs to be gone through. Needs a battery as has to be jumped to start. Hood release is broken, but hood does open with cable. A/C compressor is missing the belt, so it does not work. Valve covers leaking oil and need gaskets. While running the engine actually does not make any ticking or knocking noise and appears to be sound internally. All fluids need to be changed. Air box hose is damaged and sometimes needs starter fluid shot in to start up.
I guarantee that there are some other issues, but like I said at the top this is close to a parts car. I do not want to get rid of, but my wife wants her garage space back before winter. If I took the time to part out worth much more than I am asking.
