2001 Ford Taurus SES Description

I've owned this vehicle for about 6 years in which my wife and I both used it as a daily driver. We're getting rid of it because my wife needed something taller (truck) due to her bad back and medical bills. This vehicle has a clear title and has a lot of potential for being a good daily driver / commuter car again once it's restored.
In it's current condition, it runs good, is driveble, never been into any major accidents and never smoked in (the interior is in pretty good shape). A/C and heat both work, radio / cd player sound great and has a remote for keyless entry. There's just a lot of things (both big and small) that need to be done to this vehicle before it could be used again as a daily driver. If you're a mechanic, learning to be one or like to tinker this car would be a great project for you!
The car has been sitting for a little over a year due to the registration / inspection being out (it wouldn't pass inspection due to a bad EGR valve). Since then, I've replaced the EGR valve, battery, gas cap, fuel pump and mass air flow sensor. Battery is brand new from O'Riley autoparts and should have at least a 2 year warranty on it. It should pass inspection (there's no longer a check engine light on), but I haven't tried since we now have a truck and are getting rid of it.
Things that need to be fixed still:
Major:
  • Break fluid leak, not sure where it's leaking but the fluid is disappearing.
  • Transmission needs to be serviced, it shifts but sometimes slips gears. Its slipped / shifted hard ever since we bought it 6 years ago, but over the years it's gotten worse. It really starts to act up when it's cold outside or when you've been driving it a while.
  • Definitely needs at least 2 new tires on the front, the driver side is on a doughnut and passenger looks rough. The back tires are about 3 years old (about 1/2 wear). The rim for the driver side tire is in the trunk.
  • Weird clunk noise when you go over bumps, I've had the cv joints replaced and shocks but the noise is still there. Not sure what it is, maybe a loose strut or something? (doesn't prevent the car from driving, but annoying).

Minor:

  • Driver side window doesn't roll down and the electronics in the drivers side door do not work. One mechanic I took it to said it was a problem between the switches in the door and the computer. Another said he thought the wiring was bad, so I don't know if the switches are bad, wiring is bad or if its just something funky going on with the computer, everything else in the car seems to work just fine though.
  • Needs a new PCV Valve elbow, the one on there right now is cracked so I've got duct tape on it.
  • Rattling when cooling fan kicks on, maybe a loose baring in the fan or something. It's not noticeable when your inside the car and it's not that loud.
  • Windshield wiper sprayer doesn't work, the hose rotted out and needs to be replaced.
  • Needs an oil change
  • Key doesn't work to open the trunk, only the keyless entry and the inside trunk pop opens it. I had to replace the lock, but the new one didn't come with a key.
  • Cosmetic wise, the front and rear bumper have cracks in them (you can see this in the pics), the side of the front bumper hit a light pole and the rear by backing into one. The doors have some really small dents in them nothing major. Overall the car doesn't look too bad.

This vehicle is located in Brazoria, Tx and although it runs perfectly fine, it can not legally be driven due to the inspection and registration being out. You can drive off with it, but I'd recommend a flat bed because of this.
