1958 Ford F-250
Look up farm truck in the dictionary and you’ll see this survivor waiting for its next job or restoration.
This truck is a one owner truck bought new in the beautifully dry state of New Mexico, where it spent its entire life. The owner had 40 acres of land that he worked with cattle and horses. In the early 60’s the owner drove the truck up to Oregon looking for work as a logger. The owner and truck spent the better part of 3 years in Oregon before returning back to NM, where the truck would stay until I purchased it in the summer of 2015. The last 5 pics are of the truck in use by the previous owner. Note the winch being used with block and tackle to hoist a massive tree onto the white load truck.
The prior owner rebuilt the top end of the motor and installed a new clutch 4,000 miles ago. The 292 Y-block is very strong, purrs like a kitten, does not smoke, and starts quicker than my Toyota. There is a newer exhaust and new alternator regulator. It also will come with a spare NOS alternator. The brakes are the original drum type, but maintained well and in good operating condition. There is a brake bias controller which was added by the prior owner. The 4-speed transmission shifts with ease and make the truck a pleasure to drive. Top speed is about 55, or at least that’s where I felt comfortable when I had it out the other day on the parkway.
Sale includes the original and rare PTO (power take off) winch, which is controlled by all original equipment in the cab. All gauges work and are accurate. The cab is heated by the original and working stock blower, which gets the cab warm fairly quickly. I installed a new windshield and rubber. Believe it or not the last owner installed cruise control on the truck, which does not currently work, but he says it worked when the truck left his farm. Some of the electrical connections will need to be gone through and cleaned, for instance…one of the brake lights works when it wants to. If I go over a bump, it works…the next day…it won’t….and then it will again…you get the picture.
The patina on this truck is awesome. There is very minimal thru-rust / rot, with the only concerning spot being on the passenger side cab corner, which is a very easy repair. The interior is rough, but in-tact and serviceable. The bench seat has a tear on the driver’s side. The dash in in great condition, and even has the original radio, which unfortunately does not work, but again….is serviceable.
This is just about the neatest work truck you’ll find offered right now. A running, driving, reliable, original, two owner, history rich truck like this is hard to find these days.
The cool factor on this truck recently went up significantly when it was filmed for the making of a movie called Measure of a Man, staring Donald Sutherland and Luke Wilson. The truck (in the movie) is owned by Donald’s character, an angry old farmer trying to toughen up a young bullied boy. In turn the boy teaches Donald’s character some very important life lessons. The truck was used quite a bit in the movie and helps shape Donald’s character…..apparently…
