We purchased this explorer new in July of 2006 and it has been our family car. It has 181,600 miles on it. All miles are from driving kids around, and trips to beach and mountains in the Northeast US. It has been great car for us. It has the normal wear and tear you would expect it to have for this age and mileage. It has a few dings and scrapes and the interior is in OK condition for this age but shows wearas you can see from the pictures.
This was the op of the line Explorer in 2006 and I believe has every available option at that time except the rear seat DVD player enterainment system. See the picture of the Window Sticker from when we bough the car, I wont list everything here.
The Good: The car has had routine maintenance done at a local shop by our house. Anything more complex was done at Bill March Ford in Newtown, PA. The motorruns great however it does have a tap when first started that goes away once oil gets up to the head. The dealer said this is not uncommon with explorers, and it has not been an issue. The transmission seem good and shift well. The tires have less than 10K miles on them and the car is inspected though 05/2017 in PA. All electronics work well (except 3rd row seats see below), the heat is hot and the AC is cold.
The Bad: There is a hum when turning to the right from the front left wheel, I don't know if it is the aggressive tire tread or something in the suspension and I have not had it checked. The electric motors for the 3rd row seats are shot, which is common for these explorers. The one is locked in the down position and the other can be moved manually but does not lock upright.
In all I would put the car in the GOOD condition category and I have tried to describe everything here to the best of my ability and knowledge, however I am not a mechanic. You are welcome to ask questions via emailor come look at the car but please email me to schedule.
