Ford Mustang Coupe
302 V8 & Factory Stick Shift
VIN: 8FD1T129941
I’m often asked where we find these nice classics. One of my best friends cruises the parking lots of retirement homes, Elks clubs, V.F.W halls and the back alleys of our Seattle neighborhoods. He can spot a seatbelt slammed in a car door a mile away… He even notices when a vehicle is driving down the road with a turn signal on just a little too long and he positively twitches with glee when passing by a rig with metal bumpers, especially if it’s a Mustang!
If you’re in the market for a clean, complete, well-kept, vintage daily driver please give this nice car your kind attention. This is a desirable factory manual floor shift and they’re becoming very difficult to find. You’re welcome to contact me with questions or to discuss a sale before the end of the Ebay listing. My name is Mark and I can be reached at 206/914-1173. I'll be sure to include many receipts from the past owner (as well as mine) along withour free-and-clear title, Bill of Saleand a 1968 Mustang Owners Manual when the carheads to it's next caretaker.
CONDITION:
The photos really tell the Mustang’s story. It’s been a western Washington car for almost thirty years and came to my collection here in the snow-free Puget Sound Area a month ago.I take pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly, here's a list of the good and also one or two needed final tasks:
The first question I’m always asked is about rust.Well, this classic cruiser HATES rust and you’ll be very hard pressed to find anything here to worry about.Yes, the Puget Sound region gets its share of drizzle, but rarely any snow so our winter roads are never salted. One snowflake and everyone stays home.Besides, this vehicle has not even seen a winter road in many years!Climb over, under and throughout, I know you’ll come up smiling!
One turn of the key and the strong 302 cubic-inch V8 fires right up with just a few pumps of the gas pedal when cold. After driving the Mustang for a few daysI felt the clutch was a bit weak, so our shop installed a new complete assembly two weeks ago. This included both the clutch and pressure plates, release bearing and turning the flywheel. Now the three-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly, just like it should with NO slippage. The previous owner began upgrading the coupe by adding front disk brakes and replacing much of the front suspension with new shocks, ball joints and bushings. Rear shackles were done in back. These improvements make the rig easier and much safer to drive! We all know how strong factory Ford rear ends are. This one came from the Dearborn Plant with 3.2 gears in the pumpkin, but I was informed, now has a rear axle ratio of 8.8.
Take another look at the interior pics. You won’t find many ’68 Mustangs with the rare fold-down armrest front bench seat. It’s got the classic bucket seat look, but can actually accommodate a third person; never mind that there’s only seat belts for two, this was the swinging sixties after all! It's nice to have that armrest for your right forearm when driving. Both door panels and the headliner are in excellent condition as pictured.Same goes for the rear seat and all the glass. One quarter window doesn’t crank, but I’ve just moved it up and down by hand. The carpets are older, but still solid with only a wear spot in back of the driver’s vinyl footrest. If it’s important to you, I’d plan on installing a good stereo system as theone in the dash nowisn’t functional.
As my un-retouched photos show, the overall exterior is in excellent condition. When we acquired the Mustang it still wore the factory original “Gulfstream Aqua” metallic paint.I’m always hesitant to redo original exteriors, but felt the body had enough small dings and scratches to warrant it.There was NO rust in the usual areas near the bottom of the doors, quarter panels or front fenders. As is typically found, there’s a few spots on the front frame rails (under the hood) caused by accumulated rainwater, but they’ve been there many years and actually now help drainage from the compartment.I’ve included a picture of repairs done within the trunk by the immediate past owner last year.He had the rear frame rails and the gas tank replaced; not a small thing when restoring these cars as most will have flaking rust within that plugs fuel filters over and over. Within the past two years he also replaced both the fuel and water pumps, the headlight & ignition switchesand had the carburetor rebuilt. Upgraded Accel hi-po ignition wires, fresh sparkplugs,a newignition coil and the battery tray were recently added.
17-inch American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels really upgrade the look of a classic Mustang without intruding on the vintage vibe. These are wrapped with low-profile all-season radials with estimated 50%+ remaining rubber all around.Though not pictured, there’s a factory spare included stored in the trunk. The hood has the optional recessed blinkers, too. This Coupe really is a blast to drive and I guarantee absolutely turns heads everywhere you go!
