HIGHLIGHTS
1-owner car that's logged only 12,758 milesFor a little over 33 years Steve Saleen and his team of octane-fueled engineers have turned out some of the most desirable Mustangs the late model market has ever seen. Wrapping serious performance and storied pedigree in aggressive styling that's inspired by everything from drag cars to Bonneville champions, their value as collector pieces is obvious when they roll off the line. And, as you all know, RK Motors Charlotte specializes in the rare, cool and collectible. With that in mind, we're pleased to offer 2003 Saleen S281SC number 47. 1 of only 128 supercharged S281 coupes built for the 2003 model year, and 1 of only 15 decked in gray-on-gray aesthetics, this sinister pony has logged only 12,758 miles in the hands of one owner. And if you're looking for a genuinely enjoyable muscle car that doubles as a very solid investment, it's your chance to grab a whole lot of fun for not a lot of money!
BODY
More than just a half-hearted paint-and-decal polish, and certainly more than a resto-mod-style engine up fit, the S281SC package included a number of appearance and performance upgrades. And, as you would expect, Saleen's aggressive panels and subtle visuals fit this Dark Shadow Grey Ford exceptionally well. At the front of the car's body, a sequentially numbered Saleen fascia anchors a painted grille behind a familiar horse and bright factory headlights. Above that fascia, an S281SC-exclusive hood fronts tinted glass, which reflects an array of Saleen decals in black Ford mirrors. At the sides of that hood, Ford's famous New Edge profile hangs textured Saleen louvers and small S281 emblems between rare Saleen C-pillars, traditional Saleen decals and seamless Saleen side skirts. At the back of that profile, a flat Saleen wing and bright Center High Mount Stop Lamp shade a small blue oval badge, a small S281SC emblem, a custom Saleen fascia and polished stainless exhaust tips. And overall, this low-mileage coupe is a show-ready time capsule that layers great fit under excellent finish.
DRIVETRAIN
If ever there were a muscle car that had a scowl to match its evil demeanor, this is it! Toss the hood and you'll find a 16-valve, single overhead cam V8 that, thanks to a Saleen supercharger, port fuel injection and Saleen engine management, twists 375 rowdy horses into 410 lb./ft. of pavement-painting torque. Stout, solid and highly adaptable, Ford's Teksid aluminum mod motors have spent the last two decades powering everything from Mustangs and street rods to Aviators and Panoz roadsters. Behind that smooth mill, a slick-shifting 5-speed spins torque to Ford-installed gears. That torque transfers through a proven Saleen Racecraft Suspension, which pairs a thick sway bar, custom chassis geometry and custom wheel alignment with stiff springs, upgraded struts and upgraded shocks. At the corners of that suspension, Ford power disc brakes make good use of standard ABS. Turns come courtesy of Ford's performance-tuned power steering, which communicates well with standard stability control. Exhaust flows through fresh, 2.5-inch pipes, which hang a Saleen crossover in front of Saleen mufflers. And all that first class speed and agility rolls on polished Saleen wheels, which spin 255/35ZR18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports in front of 265/35ZR18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports.
INTERIOR
Inside this low-slung Ford, bolstered Saleen seats feature crack-free leather hides. The car's dash is a classic Mustang layout that complements familiar, white-face telemetry with Saleen white-face accessory gauges. At the center of that dash, factory climate control and requisite Mach 6-CD audio front a factory console that's fitted with a close-ratio shifter and a sequential Saleen plaque. That seat, dash and console trifecta is framed by a tight headliner and stain-free carpet, which is protected by Saleen floor mats. In front of the driver, a tilting, leather-wrapped steering wheel sports convenient thumb buttons for the car's factory cruise control. At the sides of the passengers, crack-free door panels wear Saleen-installed accents. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a modern muscle car are ready and waiting including: power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, a power driver's seat and a built in theft deterrent system.
