Up for sale is a 1996 Ford Mustang Cobra SN95. I purchased this vehicle two months ago and had the intention of building it into a race car with the help of my father in law. However, he recently developed heart problems and having never done much engine work, I’m not inclined to tackle the task all by myself. From what I’ve read, many of the Ford 4.6L and 5.4L parts are interchangeable. This would be an incredible project car for someone who has mechanical skills or patience and a desire to learn them.
The Good
The Cobra features a 4.6 liter engine block similar to the GT but from 1996-1998, Ford used aluminum blocks instead of iron blocks. The aluminum blocks were manufactured in Italy by Teksid (makers of Ferrari blocks) and can be built to sustain over 1,000 horsepower. Additionally, they came from the factory with a forged crank, performance heads, 4-valve/dual overhead cams, a Cobra intake and were hand assembled by two man teams in Michigan. Each engine has the assembler’s signatures on the passenger side valve cover. The gentleman I bought it from recently installed a Hurst short throw shifter, a new clutch and a new battery. Power windows and locks work well and all of the glass is in good shape. Plus, it has a Jesus emblem on the trunk so you know it’s blessed J
The Bad
Although I drove the vehicle home, it did have a ticking sound coming from the driver side valve cover. I tried to remove the valve cover but couldn’t get it past the brake hydro booster. So, I’m not sure if it is an issue with the cam or a rod/bearing issue. Driver’s seat has a tear in the side bolster from getting in and out. Other than that, black leather is in good condition for its age. Radio has power but no sound. Knob for headlight control is missing but all of the lighting works. Vehicle could use an alignment. I’d conservatively rate the paint a 6 out of 10. A good buff would do wonders. The valve cover will have to be tightened down and the brake fluid reservoir re-installed if you want to drive it home.
Vehicle is being sold “as-is” with an accident free Carfax and clean Colorado Title. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have and I’ll try and answer them to the best of my ability. I have attached many pictures to accurately portray its condition. Reserve is set at what I have into the car which is not much.
