1968 Ford Mustang Description

This gorgeous 1968 Mustang is proof that you don't need to spend a big pile of money to get a great- driving early pony car. With a powerful 289 and a performance look, this is a fun and fast summertime cruiser that will serve you well for years to come. We'll admit that the paint on this car needs some work, and it's visible in the photos. However, the burgundy finish benefits in a big way from a recent professional buff job, so the car has a handsome look befitting its very reasonable price tag. And while the paint itself is showing some age, the bodywork underneath remains in excellent shape, so no worries about extensive surgery. You can easily spot a '68 Mustang with its side marker lights, and few enthusiasts will argue that 1968 wasn't a high point for Ford stylists. The hood has a Shelby-style scoop and a set of hood pins, there's also a Shelby-style grille up front that really makes it look aggressive. Chrome is bright, the stainless is in good order, and all the Mustang badges are in their proper places. There's a lot of potential here.Inside, a correct black vinyl bucket seat interior shows you why the Mustang was a perennial best-seller. Comfortable, stylish, and nicely finished, it's a great place to spend some time. We suspect the interior is mostly original and with that in mind, it's pretty nice. The driver's seat shows some age, which isn't surprising, and the good news is that new seat covers are shockingly cheap and easy to install. A wood-rimmed steering wheel adds a bit of upscale elegance and a racy vibe, while the big, round gauges are bright and easy to read. The original AM radio has been replaced by a more recent Kenwood AM/FM/CD unit that fits into the original slot, so it almost looks like it was born there. Finally, the trunk features a correct plaid mat.The engine is a correct C-code 289 cubic inch V8, which has obviously had a lot of attention lavished upon it recently. Looking every bit like the original powerplant, it wears Ford Blue paint, "Ford Racing" valve, and a matching finned air cleaner supplies the fresh air. Edelbrock supplied the intake manifold, which is topped by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, a nice upgrade from the original 2-barrel unit. Tubular exhaust headers feed a Flowmaster dual exhaust system with an X-pipe that delivers a V8 sound without being too loud, both at full throttle and more importantly, at cruising speeds. One look at the chassis and you'll know that this has always been a clean, dry car, although it isn't detailed for show. A 3-speed automatic transmission drives a rugged 8-inch rear with easy-cruising 3.00 gears, and it all hangs on original suspension pieces with modern shocks. 16-inch Torque Thrust wheels and 225/55/16 Dunlop radials give it a racy look and improved handling. With great performance, a killer engine note, and instantly-recognizable good looks, this '68 coupe puts you behind the wheel of a legend for not a lot of cash. With a little time and effort, this could be a truly spectacular car. Call today!
