1928 Ford Model A Description
History: Truck was restored in the 1990s by a collector in Dover Plains, NY. In 2007, The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) purchased this truck to use for store openings, parades, exhibits and other special events. At the time I was working for A&P. I was responsible for getting the truck to look like a 1920s/1930s Era A&P delivery truck with correct colors and period correct logos/lettering. It had been Orange and Black, but A&P had the orange resprayed red. All logos are laser-cut vinyl decals. This was not an original A&P delivery truck. It was made to look like this for a practical marketing tool. From 2007 to 2010, I was the sole caretaker for the vehicle and drove the truck in several parades, brought it to a store opening, Customer Appreciation Days at different A&P stores and it was displayed at The Paterson Museum in New Jersey for A&P's 150th Anniversary Exhibit. After I left A&P in 2010, the truck sat in its trailer for a year before being used again. It was used for a store opening in Philadelphia and a few other events. It did not run for the last few years and spent some time in the Floral Department of the A&P in Woodland Park, NJ. When A&P filed for bankruptcy again last year, I reached out to them to see if I could buy the truck. They chose to list the truck on ebay last October/November. The Auction did not reach their Reserve Bid so they got back to me about my offer. It was filthy, did not run, had 2 flat tires, they had lost the keys and the rear fenders were badly scratched up. It had been neglected for a few years and needed some work and TLC. After acquiring the truck, I replaced the battery, Instrument Panel, Instrument Panel wiring harness, Instrument Panel light, 2 inner tubes and ignition switch. I had the rear fenders repainted, and polished the remainder of the truck. When I worked for A&P, this was my baby and my pride and joy. I was a loyal employee full of pride for A&P's rich History. By owning it, I thought I could rekindle some of those feelings I had back then. Unfortunately, with my own money invested into it, I would prefer to own a classic car that is more practical. It is great for parades, shows, exhibits, museums, etc... It is not very fast, especially going up hill. I am 6'2" and the cab is a bit tight for me. It starts right up, but needs some spark advance and/or carburetor adjustments. It drips oil, will leak gas from the carb if you forget to turn off the fuel petcock when the truck is turned off, has some scratches and other minor defects, but overall looks very good. The tires are old and have some sidewall cracking, but should hold up fine for limited use. They look the same as when A&P acquired the truck in 2007. If you are looking for a concourse restoration, you missed the Chevy Huckster that sold at Barrett Jackson for $60,000 a couple of years ago. These were work trucks. I would guess that this truck looks better now than it did in the 1930s. The red repaint has a few drips here and there. The white specks in the close up photos are just dust. If you are interested, come out and take a look at it if you are local. There is no rust. Some wood is original and some wood was replaced during the 1990s restoration. Whether you are a Model A, Huckster vehicle or A&P enthusiast, this truck will be right up your alley. It is a crowd pleaser that attracts a lot of attention and brings smiles to the young and old alike. Let me know if you have any questions. I have listed this vehicle to the best of my ability and as accurately as possible. Deposit is non-refundable. Only bid if you are absolutely sure my description satisfies your questions and/or I have answered your questions. Truck is also available for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the listing early if sold locally. Contact me if you would like to schedule an inspection of the truck.
On May-01-16 at 19:24:18 PDT, seller added the following information:This type of vehicle was referred to as a Huckster. Ford would ship the chassis, and partially completed body to a coach builder who would complete the cab and rear portion of the body for the purchaser's specific needs.
