Up forauction is my 2004 F150 CNG. I've owned this truck for about two years, and in that time I've put about 40k freeway miles on it commuting. I'm selling it because I have way too many cars.
The truck was originally owned by a municipality in central California, and it appears to have been fairly well taken care of. In general, I'd say the truck runs EXCELLENT. It's not completely perfect, but as far as running and driving condition...it's far better than most. Very solid feeling, drives completely straight down the road, no strangenoises, no hesitation, no weird vibrations, etc... TheI'd drive it anywhere that CNG is available without concern right now.
Since owning it, I'vereplaced the following maintenance items: Radiator, upper and lower radiator hoses, heater hoses, thermostat, upper control arms (w/ ball joints), lower ball joints, front end alignment, front and rear brake pads, timing chain tensioners, tensioner arms, timing chain guides, front cover crankshaft seal, water pump, and a complete set of MSD ignition coils.
What maintenance items it will need soon: Tires. I have put about 40k miles on them myself, and they were pretty well worn when I bought the truck. The right front tire has a very slow leak in it currently.
Other issues worth mentioning: 1) There seems to be an intermittent coolant leak from the top, rightrear of the engine. I am nearly certain it is coming from where the intake manifold meets the cylinderhead, however I can't prove that without removing the intake. Currently it's not leaking on to the ground at all, but it has in the past. I put some Bar's Leaks in it,and it seems to have stopped it completely. 2) I did not "turn" the rotors when I did the brakes, so there is aSLIGHT shudder when braking. It's more noticeable when light braking from freeway speed, less noticeable at other times. 3) The potentiometer is worn on the radio volume knob making it sometimes difficult to adjust. 4) Front bumper has a dent from me tapping a trailer hitch of a car. 5) small imperfections in the body and interior...normal for a truck of it's age and mileage.
The tanks appear to be the original set of three, are fully-functional and expire December of 2018. To be clear they are a 3600 psi system, and NOT a 3000 psi system. The range will depend on your driving style, but I have pushed this truck in excess of 350 miles on the freeway. Typically though, it's good for about 275-300 miles.
This vehicle is classified as an ultra-low emission vehicle and does qualify for carpool stickers. I did not file for them on this truck (I did on my last one), but it DOES QUALIFY by it's VIN#. If I recall, the cost of the stickers is $8.00, and all you have to do is fill out a single form.
Commonly-asked questions: Is this truck a conversion?....NO. Thisis a factory-builttruck, that was never fueled by gasoline and has run on CNG since day one. Can it run on propane?....NO. What would it cost to retank it?...'ve never looked into that.
The registration is valid through 9/30/17 and it passed a CA smog test on 11/3/16 (valid for transfer purposes for90 days). Mileage may vary slightly from stated amount as I drive it occasionally.
I wish I could justify keeping this truck, but I just can't... I don't drive it enough. I really runs and drives nicely and will make someone a great truck.
Truck will be available for pickup in Fresno, CA. Payment in full will be required before it leaves my driveway.
