1996 Explorer V8,345 HP Crate Motor - not running (extra engine/trans only $250)
1996 Ford Explorer XLT with Cobra / SVT Emblems Description
My wife purchased this Explorer at Fred Jones Ford in 1997. It was like new and had 30,000 miles. We drove it on vacations, and to work until about 2003 when it had 127,000 miles. I wanted to something different than anyone else. I ordered a 345 ford Crate Motor w/ Ford aluminum SVO heads and a modified transmission installed. We dove the "Long Haul on the Hot Rod Magazine, Power Tour from Nashville, TN to Memphis, to New Orleans and ended in Arlington, TX ( Dallas Area ). It was 100 degrees and about 3500 miles and it performed flawlessly.
Other modifications done after the trip are1) JBA "TorqueMonster, Firecone Headers with 2.5 inch collectors added & ceramic coated inside and outside. 2.5 inch high flow catalytic converter, single baffle 3 -inch Flowmaster Mufflers, and dual 3-inch exhausts When this baby cranks up,it rumbles & everybody looks !! When they figure out it's a Ford Explorer, they are impressed. It has Cobra Badges on the front fenders, and an SVT badge on the back2) Crower - 15511 Camshaft w/ dual springs ( it really idles and sounds bad !!! )3). 77 mm Mass air w/ 30.1 pound per hour matched injectors4) The Cobra Intake is replaced by an upper and lower intake is a Typhoon Brand higher flow. It is an exact copy of Edelbrock's Intake System4). Holley inline 250 lph Holley inline fuel pump5). High pressure fuel adjustable regulator added, and set at 52 psig6). MSD Ignition system7). 4.30 Ford Racing Ring and pinion added to replace the stock 3.73 gearing ( speedometer has 4.11 correction gears to match speedometer more accurately- reads 4.6 % faster )
The car has been driven 46,000 with the performance crate motor & transmission mods.. Transmission built in Bossier Cit, LA.
Currently, the following things need fixed
1), The passenger side Ford aluminum head, which has been ported, has a leak - It needs to be replaced.
2). The transmission needs to be rebuilt. 4 th gear slips
3). One rod bearing needs replaced, due to head leakage. I stopped driving it immediately, when I smelled anti freeze.
4). It needs a new battery. The radiator and intake mass air equipment is off the car, and will be in the package given to you at Tulsa.
5). The hood needs repainted and clear coating has weathered.
6). The windshield wipers need replaced
Everything worked when I stopped driving it in 2008. The car must be trailer transported, or towed from Tulsa 74135.
