1939 FORD TUDOR SEDAN FLATHEAD SURVIVOR ORIGINAL PATINA ROUGE
1939 Ford Other Standard Description
For sale a very original 1939 Ford Standard Tudor Sedan. It's hard to find a real survivor like this these days. I would say it has 85% original black paint with some very minor touch ups in some areas. All original interior. Seats upholstery and headliner are in great shape with a few minor issues from being 76 years old. The front floor mat has been replaced. Has the original wood graining on the dash and the garnish mouldings. The car shows 55,780 miles. Not sure the actual mileage, but for as nice as the rest of the car is, it wouldn't be hard to see that they are original. The frame numbers match the transmission numbers. Doors click shut like new. Body panels line up like new. Floorpans are original and solid. Some surface rust on the underside but no rot. No rust in the doors, cowl or quarters. No bubbling in these areas either and no previous body work in these areas. Tool tray area in the trunk that usually have issues is original and intact with no rot. Original textured cardboard behind spare tire. Still has the remnants of an old original silver dealership decal on the trunk above the license plate. The only area on the body that I find an issue is the spare tire well bottom has been replaced at some point.
The original flathead starts easily and runs great. It purrs at idle. Original transmission shifts smooth. Steering box is excellent and not loose. All original gauges work. All exterior and interior lights work. Horn works. It has a working and correct 1939 Ford heater as well. The car had a complete new cloth wrapped factory style wiring harness put in it several years back. Looks original. No drains on the electrical system and I can let it sit for a month and it will start up fine.
The only modifications to note are that it has had dual exhaust put on it sometime in the past connected to the original exhaust manifolds. It was done well and routes through the original uncut frame holes nicely. It sounds great when revved. Also, someone reverse eyed the front mainleaf to get the car down in the front. Also, it has original 1939 Deluxe hubcaps. They are in great shape. All easy reversal to get back to bone stock.
I drive this car regularly and sometimes as a daily driver and it does great. It drives like a restored car probably due to the low miles and that it has been maintained. No current issues that would keep me from driving it anywhere. Recently done within the last year are as follows: New BF Goodrich 6.00 16 tires and tubes. Powdercoated original wheels. New brake components. New clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing. (Transmission was also checked at this time. No visual issues. I believe we put the first replacement clutch in the car. We replaced the throwout bearing that was stamped 3-39 and the car was built in March of 1939. The flywheel has never been surfaced and is in great shape. The floorboards looked like they had never been out. Original floorboard wood still good and in the car.) New Group 2 6 volt battery. Skip Haney rebuilt original water pumps and coil. Rebuilt original distributor. Rebuilt correct 91-99 carburetor. Rebuilt generator. New fuel pump. New correct factory style trunk mat and wood. New correct factory style front floormat. New steering box seal. All fluids changed. New cowl vent seal. New trunk seal. Three sets of seat belts added in the rear. Radiator boiled, cleaned and checked. New upper and lower radiator hoses. The running board covers were replaced sometime in the recent past before I got it as well. I'm sure there are some other maintenance items that have been done that I am forgetting. I drive my cars on a regular basis and my first priority is reliability. If it needed something to be reliable, it was done.
The car has a lot of patina and character and there aren't many original survivors like this left. The only bad I can say about the car, is that the rear glass has delamination as pictured but adds to the originality for me. Drivers door window is cracked. Original flathead uses a little oil but idles, accelerates and performs great. The paint is not perfect and has it's shares of imperfections, scratches, etc. but shines up nice and adds to overall character, patina and originality.
Comes with original Hurd keys and 1939 Ford manual. Still has the factory spare tire lock and key that works. Comes with a current GA registration and bill of sale as GA does not issue titles for pre-1969 vehicles. GA 1939 license plates and tag toppers are not included with the sale. I also have an older title that came with he car that was signed over to a previous owner from GA. I also have the previous owners information back to the early 60's.
