about | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
We purchased this truck from the Appalachian Chapter of the Red Cross. Its first life was used sparingly only in times of disaster remediation in the South Eastern part of the country and turned over just 18,000 miles when we bought it. We drove it all the way to Colorado without issue and proceeded to do a detailed 4 wheel drive conversion which is something we specialize in. The truck is a perfect platform for expedition or overland travel. It is the perfect size for a manageable Off/On Road RV and is a pleasure to ride in and drive. On the nuts and bolts, this setup is a high dollar no expense spared Wheeled Coach brand box, fully insulated, lit, wired, and with auxiliary rear air and heat, and power inverter....and diamond plate everything. This is mated to a 450 Econoline chassis with a Dana 80 under the back (orig), and a Dana 60 up front from a 2009 Superduty with a custom 4 link coil link suspension that we build in house. It has been completely gone through and had just 40k miles on it before install, now with all new tie-rods (4), new track bar and joints, new ball joints, new brake calipers, rotors, pads, new shocks, abs sensors, drive shafts, rebuilt NP271 manual transfer case, and 4R100 Transmission. The truck has a roughly 6" overall lift with 33" tires basically new, on new dually rims and 4 wheel disk all the way around. We have built this truck with both usability and reliability in mind. It was not inexpensive to produce and is also not something we can readily reproduce simply because of the rarity of the coach, powertrain and mileage. We hope it finds a good home who will both use and appreciate it.

This van is both clean and straight. There is no body rust, hail, or damage anywhere. It maintains a clean Carfax and has not been exposed to any significant amount of salt. There are several undercarriage photos showing the condition, we haven't gone through and spray painted everything, just paint/powdercoat on the items we've modified. This van had a 2 tone paint job with the lower section red. The box has been repainted in full with enamel, and the cab paint work done in base/clear. The wheels and tires are basically new, super nice tread and excellent condition. They are 17" all the way around and a matching 8 x 170 wheel pattern same as 05+ Superduty. It has new side steps and we've custom fit deep pocket rear fender flares to help span the massive 8'10" width on the rear tire track. They do protrude just slightly beyond the fenders. The windshield is free of cracks, all the doors open and close easily, the box doors are all insulated and are self latching. It has 2 coach batteries on the left side and one on the right that's probably wired inline with the under-hood battery. It has a large outside access box on the drivers side behind the drivers door with a power inverter built in, and one storage box on the right rear. Everything is trimmed in diamond plate and the rear step folds up as shown in the photos. The box and nose cone were painted enamel for durability, this will wear better than base-clear, but it's not quite as shiny. It's a very decent job, perfectly serviceable, but not show quality. We spent a few grand getting it painted up, but not 5 grand. Coach is made for use again, not show. There are a few small runs that could be sanded out in the future if you want. Everything is all very tight and well fit, zero body work was done to this coach. We left a small strip of red in the inside doors jamb pinch welds to act as a reflector and homage to previous use.

The interior is very clean. It smells pleasant, no smell of must, smoke, or hospital chemical type smells. It just smells like a Ford van. The cabin is basically immaculate, you can see the seating is perfect, carpet looks nice, dash, doors, etc, all very clean. This unit is well equipped, tilt, cruise, windows and locks, and there's the control block center consul for everything. Basically it has: rear flood lights, rear hazard flashers, 4 large white side lights, satellite radio box, CB, PA system and Truck Horn. There's an auxiliary rear air/heater system that runs when the vehicle is running but could likely be setup to run from a generator. The dash and rear air both work fine. The inverter isn't real big but it's functional. The cargo space looks basically the way we got it, nice and clean. There's no damage, diamond plate all in good shape. It has e-track tie downs on both sides, flip down chairs and shelving, etc, everything you see in the photos. I don't suppose all this stuff is really pertinent, you can see what it has in the photos and craft your plan accordingly.
