1996 Ford Bronco XLT Description
1996 Ford Bronco with 1998 Cummins 12 valve motor. The conversion was done by GOS Performance in Livingston Montana in 2009. The build and finished project were featured in a 5 page article in the August 2010 issue of Diesel Tech magazine and it was voted 'Full Size Bronco" of the month on Fullsizebronco.com.
The Bronco had 96,000 on it at the time. The Cummins had 82,000. The motor was disassembled, inspected, a valve job was done and the motor was completely resealed. Motor mods include, head studs and Dynomite Diesel 80 hp injectors. The P7100 pump was flow matched and balanced at 490CC's, a custom ground #6 fuel plate was added, 4500 RPM governor springs and 191 laser cut delivery valves. There is a ATS 3 piece manifold and Phat Shaft 52/80 turbo. The intercooler is from a 2004.5 Dodge. It will pull close to 50 psi boost. The transmission is a E4OD from behind a 1996 Ford Powerstroke, the trans was built by ATS in Livingston Montana and features all Suncoast components, shift and tugger kits plus a 3 clutch billet convertor. The trans is controlled by a PCS fully programmable controller.
Under the hood looks completely stock. All of the Ford components were used, like A/C and charging system. It even uses the stock Ford wiring harness, modified to run the Cummins. Everything from the stock Bronco functions, from a/c to cruise control, shift on the fly 4X4 and abs. This was not built as an off roader, more along the lines of what you would expect from the Stock Bronco. The diffs are the factory 8.8, both rebuilt, as was the transfer case. The rear driveline is a custom built piece using 1350 joints. The rear diff has a Eaton limited slip. The tire and brakes were new in November 2015and have about 3000 miles on them. The paint, upholstery and glass are all original from Ford. It has a 4" Tuff Country lift and recently polished 16" 134 Ultra wheels. I looked for 2 years to find the right Bronco for this project. It had to be rust free, with excellent paint and interior. This one fit the bill. It could use new carpet and has a few rock chips as well as 2 small parking lot dings.
I have put almost 30K miles on the Bronco since the conversion was done. It is very reliable and I would drive it anywhere. It is an absolute thrill to drive, turns heads and stops people in there tracks when you fill it with fuel. Everyone wants a peek under the hood. It will get 20-25 mpg if you keep your foot out of it. I hate to part with it, but I just bought a new Kenworth T880 so I am parting with a few toys. It will truly be a sad day when I sell it.My reserve isway less then it cost to build, the current average price for the conversion is close to $40,000. Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions.
