2011 Ford Mustang GT Coupe 2-Door Description

I think it's time to move on from my 2011 GT. It's been a street car with track duty since I purchased it new. It competed in NASA Time Trials last year with little success against full on racecars. I just couldn't tear her apart, so I purchased another car to go full retard race mode on. The car is a fantastic driver. Power is really nice. It handles well. It brakes well. It is comfortable.

Ok, so $24k is a lot for a 2011 base GT, but I believe it's upgrades will make its high value apparent. So, let's get down to it.

Engine: 5.2L voodoo block, forged Manley 11:1 rods, forged crank, boss heads with Livernois bowl blend (flowed 15cfm over stock), cj cams, pac springs, boss tensioners, comp cams intake side limiters, boss chain tensioners, boundary OPG, cj pulse ring, mmr head cooling mod, arp head studs, ported boss intake, 90mm BBK throttle body, jlt cai. Made 496rwhp/409rwtq on 93 octane. It would be over 520rwhp with the cj intake. And more like 550 with big cams. I just wanted the most street - able power and you won't find better in naturally aspirated form. It gives all the torque of a gt intake with 60 more hp than a tuned boss engine. Spin this sucker to 8000rpm all day. It's ready for abuse. It's built to be capable of boost in the future. The voodoo block is claimed to be 1000hp ready out of the box. I'm not testing that theory, but you can!

Exhaust is all high end LTH 1.88 headers with their catted x and over axle pipes. The mufflers are GT500, because I like the more mellow tone and zero highway drone. Open her up, though, and it will give granny a heart attack!

Trans was replaced with a TR6060 with the 2.97 gearset. 2nd to 4th is basically the same gearing as 3d to 5th in the MT82. Shifter is the ford racing KR with Blowfish Shifter Support. Clutch is Spec stage 1 with aluminum flywheel. Pedal is somewhat stiffer than stock, but clamping power and 8000rpm shifts are perfect. The stage 1 disk makes traffic clutch slips to creep super easy. It never chatters. Clutch line is McLeod braided stainless. Driveshaft is a Spicer 4" aluminum. It's a 900hp capable piece.

Rear is 3.55 with T2R, finned cover and axle breather catch can. Car was originally optioned with 3.73 traction loc. 3.55 is better for the road courses. The tires have no issue losing traction from a stoplight, so there's no real downside.

Brakes are factory brembo package, but with braided lines, slotted centric rotors, hawk hps pads (for street duty), Blowfish Master Cylinder Brace, ATE high temp fluid, Blowfish Brake Cooling Ducts and the Ford Racing ABS module. The module was money on the track, but it makes traction control permenantly off and lights up the dash with nearly every warning. I'd switch back if it became a street only car.

Suspension is simple but effective. Koni yellows, h&r race springs, Hotchkis adjustable panhard, Hotchkis adjustable spherical style 3rd link, steeda camber plates. Factory track pack anti-roll bars. Factory everything else. It seems like it isn't enough for a proper road race car, but it really worked well and was barely harsher than stock on the street with the dampers adjusted full loose.

Wheels are Team Dynamics 18x10. Tires are Toyo R1 285/35R18 all around. TPMS are installed. 3" ARP wheel studs hold them on.

Cooling is handled with a Mishimoto radiator. I have a boss oil cooler that is not on right now. I was working on a more efficient air to oil cooler that ended up on the new car. Boss cooler will convey.

Blowfish trunk mount battery with external shutoff, Blowfish front tow hook and Blowfish "secret" hitch with rear tow hook round out the chassis.

Tiger Racing hood, APR wing, boss lower front fascia, boss rear diffuser, custom splitter and Roush grill insert are all the aero.

Interior is stock except I have a premium gt leather steering wheel and have a vent mounted oil pressure/temperature gauge. Stock cloth seats are in excellent condition. The rear quarter trim has cutouts at the bottom for a roll bar, which has been removed. It can be purchased separately. It is a Blowfish 1 of 1 bolt in roll bar. Windows are tinted. Not sure the level, but is illegal in MD and I have been pulled over zero times for it since installed almost 6 years ago. The taillights are also tinted. The tint guy wanted to try it. I thought it looked cool, so I kept it. A/C blows cold.

That's all bad ass, but what's wrong with it, right? Well, I'm not selling cuz I hate it. It's damn near the perfect car, but it's got a few minor issues, as do most. And most people wouldn't even notice, but I'm a bit anal.

Body has never ever been wrecked, bumped or bruised. It has seen a lot of track debris. It has chips here and there. There is one chip on the roof that has started to form rust. Tiger hood is fresh painted, but it's not a concours job. It's imperfect. The rear trunk lid was worked and repainted because the structure was altered to support the wing properly. The paint shines like a new dime with some elbow grease, but it's black, so it doesn't last. This car looks like a show car from 5 feet out. Come closer and you can see the imperfections. Car has 50k on it. Engine and trans have less than 1k on them. The windows are tinted and have been for 5 years. lat year, the rear window tint started to bubble. It needs to be retinted. There is a superfluous cutout in the rear bumper cover behind the license plate for an older tow hook style.

This car's best times are all with the last engine, which was down 60hp/35tq. I haven't been able to do much of anything with it since the 5.2 went in, so it's likely to be even more stellar.

Capital raceway: 12.0@119, 1.84 60ft on street tires. new engine has been 12.2@121, 2.21 60ft on street tires. Just couldn't hookup, but it's got potential!

Summit Point (home track): 1.21 (took 2nd in TT3)

VIR (still learning it): 2.06 with a 155 top speed without aero drag. New engine top speed is 160 with aero drag.

Its a solid car that I could drive anywhere. A lot of effort was put into carefully selecting complimentary components. All too often, in the quest for something better, the mods end up ruining the car. A 500rwhp coyote is not unheard of, but big cams that destroys bottom end power and a monoblade on a cj intake that has a hair trigger and will likely throw a code down the road is not my idea of a good time in the 500hp club. Every part, every modification was selected to chase the best driving experience, not the best number.
