1996 Ford F250 4X4
1996 Ford F-250 XLT Description
1996 Ford F250 7.5L 4X4 XLT
Up for sale is my 1996 F250. I'm only selling it because I hardly get to drive it and it just sits with the exception of weekend trips to the dump. I took a lot of pride and spent a lot of time & money on this truck to make it what it is and there really isn't much left to do. All of the work - engine rebuild, trans/transfer case work, differential rebuild, etc... has around 6k miles or less on it. I have receipts for everything with the exception of the transmission/transfer case work which was performed by a very reputable transmission shop mechanic that did it for me as a side job - I had no intention of selling the truck at the time.
Here is the long and short of all that I have done to the truck:
The 7.5L 460cid engine was professionally rebuilt by Reynolds Machine Shop in Bakersfield, Ca. - this shop has been around for decades and has a reputation for building kick butt motors for all types of racing and off-road vehicles as well as street cars and trucks - you can look them up online for more info.
The rebuild of this engine included: engine balancing, cylinders bored and honed, new oil pump, new freeze plugs, all new crank, rod, and cam bearings installed, new pistons and rings, double roller timing chain, Sealed Power lifters, Competition Cams Xtreme Energy XE256H cam; cam timing set at 0 degrees TDC, a 3 angle valve job on the heads along w/ new springs, guides, etc... All new (not re-manufactured) external parts were installed: Trick Flow TFX 30# fuel injectors, starter, AC compressor (AC system was flushed prior to install), alternator, power steering pump and hoses, water pump, radiator, thermostat, and all hoses - including heater hoses, belts, MSD dist. cap and rotor, Ford Racing 9MM spark plug wires, spark plugs, oxygen sensors - all 3 of them, Mass Air Flow sensor, flywheel, engine mounts, new fuel pumps in both fuel tanks - installed shortly before engine rebuild, and to finish it off, Banks headers (headers were surfaced prior to install to prevent gasket leaks) with Percy's Seal-4-Good Header Gaskets, a stainless steel Flowmaster muffler for the exhaust system, so it sounds as good as it runs and it is smog legal in communist California. And if you are lucky enough live somewhere without a bunch of smog regs. it wouldn't take much to make this motor come alive big time with a little work..
This truck has a Dana 60 front differential conversion that was rebuilt and has less than a few thousand mile on it since that time. New Warn locking hubs were also recently installed. The rear differential was inspected & serviced upon purchase a G-2 Aluminum differential cover was installed. The truck is running 4:10 gears.
The transmission and transfer case were removed and professionally gone through - all gaskets, seals, fluids, & trans. filter were replaced. The mechanic told me that it appeared to be a recent rebuild, but he did see some wear on the second gear band and clutch basket so those parts were replaced. All other parts had minimal wear and were deemed to not need to be replaced or rebuilt. The transmission also has a Banks "TransCommand, and an additional transmission cooler that was installed to complement the factory trans. cooler. Overall, the transmission and transfer case are solid and you can tell when you drive it.
The under carriage has been cleaned and detailed and with the exception of winter driving that gets it dirty, it looks great! The interior is in very good condition; I replaced the original door panels and seats with gently used ones from my 1995 F150 that are in very good condition and I keep seat covers on the seats to further prevent wear. Carpet is in good condition with low/normal wear. A new headliner was installed along with a new dash pad and dash bezel. The complete driver's side door latch assembly was recently replaced as was the weather stripping.
The cruise control works as it should and the recent recall from Ford for the cruise control system was taken care of with a new wiring harness installed by a local Ford dealership. Stereo is a Kenwood single disc/ MP3 player with Kenwood speakers.
The truck has a 4" suspension lift with Rough Country suspension components, aluminum wheels, and very low mile BF Goodrich All Terrain TA tires. It also has all new headlights, headlight bezels, clear parking lights, a new grille with an oversized Ford emblem, new tail lights, new chrome body trim, Carr brand - "hoop" style steps and a custom radio antenna.
Bed of the truck is in good condition; it has a few holes in it from a 5th wheel assembly but other than that it is not dented up or damaged. It also has a new large - oversized, WeatherGuard tool box, along with diamond plated aluminum trim along the sides of the bed and tailgate.
I believe the paint is original (no rust or body rot) and I have touched it up in a few places - primarily the tailgate, but I personally have not seen the need to repaint the truck.
The only flaws I can think of is the power door lock on the passenger side does not work - the lock does work manually, I just never got around to fixing it. There is a small dent on the bottom side of the driver side door - you can see it in the pics. There is also a ding that is hard to notice, but it is on the top passenger side of the cab.
This truck is adult owned - no 4wheeling or abuse, just a weekend cruiser that does not get the driving time it deserves.
This is in my opinion, the best body style of the older Ford trucks and this one is solid.
If you are looking for a super clean, reliable, and capable truck that gets plenty of attention, you really need to check this one out, you won't be disappointed.
