DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
The reborn GT500 celebrated one of the most successful partnerships in performance car history. Take a look under this Mustang's lightweight hood and you'll find a blown 'mod motor' that was heavily influenced by Ford's first generation GT super car. Twist the key and the big V8 rumbles to life, pushing baritone notes through an X-shaped crossover and optional Ford Racing exhaust. Goose the throttle and a roots-style supercharger utilizes an upgraded 2.59 pulley to zing the engine toward redline. That added boost is optimized by cold air induction and VMP tuning. Items like a proven Optima battery and aluminum idler pulley ensure everything stays smooth and reliable. A spotless appearance mixes assembly line technicality with the added pizazz of Shelby reservoir caps, a cobra-branded fuse box and a slick Shelby battery clamp. And it all adds up to one nicely dressed mill that meets the car's flywheel with roughly 600 horsepower!
This coupe's excellent, SVT-tuned chassis has been augmented with optional Ford Racing springs, which lower ride height by close to two inches. Between those springs, a slick-shifting Tremec TR6060 6-speed spins power to a tough Ford 8.8-inch axle. At the corners of the car, power-assisted Brembo calipers join power-assisted Ford calipers in squeezing big, vented rotors. Turns come courtesy of Ford's super-efficient power rack-and-pinion setup. Naturally, standard ABS and traction control systems are present and accounted for. And all this first class agility rides on "SVT" branded kicks, which twist 255/45ZR18 Goodyear Eagle F1s in front of 285/40ZR18 Goodyear Eagle F1s.
INTERIOR
Inside the car, bolstered seats, which feature embossed Cobra insignias, ride opposite a monochromatic, leather-wrapped steering wheel that's adorned with convenient thumb buttons. The dash is a familiar Mustang layout that frames satin-trimmed telemetry and a programmable "SVT" shift light. Below that dash, a powerful Shaker 1000 stereo utilizes a 6-disc CD changer to become a 1-stop shop for all your audio entertainment needs. Below that stereo, a clean console frames a short-throw shifter that, like the aforementioned steering wheel, is detailed in red French stitching. Beneath that console, rich carpet flows past metal-trimmed foot pedals and cobra-branded floor mats to "SVT" branded sills. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a modern muscle car are ready and waiting including: cruise control, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, a power driver's seat and Remote Keyless Entry.
