1963 Ford Thunderbird Description

You are bidding on a very original 1963 Ford Thunderbird Roadster. This is a true factory roadster (1 of only 455 produced in 1963). It has been in a private collection since the ‘70s, being stored in a climate-controlled building the entire time. It was driven sporadically to keep it from deteriorating from non-use and has only 76,000 miles showing on the odometer.

The interior is 100% original and, as seen in the pictures, is still like new throughout. There are no marks, tears, age creases, etc, in any of the upholstery, and it is still as supple as the day it left the factory. Even the original carpets show almost no wear.

This car has about every power option that was offered, including power steering, power windows, power brakes, power seats, and the rarest of all options – Air Conditioning.

This T-Bird Roadster has had one paint job in the ‘70s in the original red laquer. It looks good from 10 feet away, but shows some checking when looking at it up close. All the power options work, but I notice that the electric windows operate slower than I’d expect, and the passenger’s door window goes up and down slower than the others. The power top goes up and down slower that I would imagine it did when the car was new too and may need the hydraulic fluid topped up. The AC works but needs Freon as it’s not blowing cold air.

The 390 engine runs fine and is original to the car. It starts right up immediately when it’s cold but starts a little harder when it’s warmed up. The oil and filter have been changed within the past 2 weeks.

The 5 wheels are the original Kelsey Hays that came with it from the factory. All of them are date coded around September of 1962 (see picture of close-up of wheel). The car just had all 5 tires replace with new radials this past week.

This is the most rust-free T-Bird you’ll ever find. I could not find any rust anywhere on the car, top or bottom (see pictures of bottom). It has never been in an accident and has never had any bodywork done on it.

The brightwork on the car is all in very good condition throughout.

A complete new exhaust system was put on the car within the past few months.

This car could be taken on a tour right now. It’s very comfortable to ride in and has plenty of get-up-and-go.

I expect payment within 5 days of the end of the auction. The car can be picked up after your check has cleared my bank. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, but I can give the name of a good, reliable shipper if you wish. Buyer will be given the current Georgia Registration for 2016 and a Bill of Sale. (Georgia is a non-Title state for cars this old.)
