Original collectable 1978 F-150 Ranger, partially restored, driveable, relyable
1978 Ford F-150 Description
I have owned this truck for about twenty years. I've always wanted to do a complete restoration, but never had the time and money. It's been usedlightly the whole time I've owned it. It was transferred to my daughter once, but she returned it because it needed work. It sat for a couple of years, but was brought back to driving condition. When we moved to Washington from California in 2008, it hauled a horse trailer filled with tools and garage equipment. The engine at that time wasthe originalworn out 351M. In 2012, I decided to perk it up. A friend sold me a 351M spare engine from his 1979 truck and I had it stroked to a 400 ci and overhauled at a reputable shop. I removed the original engine and all of the original CA smog equipment, and put them in storage, and installed the 400. The external engine is identical to the 351M. To let the new block breathe, I removed the cast iron intake and installed an era Edlebrock 400 dual planer 4bbl intake, and cast aluminum valve covers. The original 2bbl carburetor and intake went to storage. I had a Holley 4bbl 700cfm overhauled at a reputable shop in town, and installed it with a new after market air cleaner. The original air cleaner, carb, intake, block, and smog equipment is stored and goes with the truck. Everything under the hood is in good condition. The truck runs better than it did when it was new! The drive train is in good working order. The transmission shows signs of a worn pump, as it slips until it gets a little warmed up. It drove for many years without a tail gate. Last year I shopped for a tailgate, and bought two of them. I liked the condition of the red one, and now it doesn't match the rest of the truck. At least it has a tail gate. The interior and the exterior is rough, but original. Drive it home from WA to anywhere in the USA! I will help you load the spare parts in the back, some of them not mentioned.
