1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Description

I have a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 project car for sale. We were in the process of restoring it and simply don't have the funds to continue. I bought this car in Atlanta, GA in 2011 under the pretense that it was number's matching - which it turned out to be, and so much more.
The car is a 351 Cleveland 2V/FMX auto. On Mach 1s, this was a slightly rarer option than the 4V. Before it was disassembled for complete restoration, we were able to get the motor to run, and run strong before the carb flooded, as it was in dire need of a rebuild. I have video of the event for proof. As the disassembly portion of the restoration began, we began to realize just how original this car was. The factory toe tag was still attached to the carburetor, as well as the rear axle. The starter motor, radiator, water pump, etc. were all original to the car. Everything that has a date code stamped into it matches. It still has the original D code yellow paint on it from the factory. We believe the 29,xxx miles showing on the odometer to be accurate -- not only is the motor all original, if you flip it over on a stand and remove the oil pan, you can see that the main bearings have hardly any wear on them. It would likely look very different if that 29k showing was actually 129k.
All that said, this car needs complete and total restoration, aside from any work specifically stated in this ad. It does NOT come with a title -- it didn't come with it when I purchased it. Please do not purchase this car if you do not understand what all of this entails and the costs involved in a vehicle restoration! It does, however, come with a deluxe Marti report.
I do have quite a bit of good new or original sheet metal that comes with the car:
- Hood
- Original doors that are straight with only pin holes in the bottom
- New stone guard
- New fiberglass hood scoop
- Original rear spoiler
- All door glass and hardware
- All chrome trim original to the car, minus the rear bumper which is no good
The car is ALMOST entirely completely. Here's a list of what is missing: rear bumper, front valance, front and back glass. The car had been sitting since 1980 prior to my purchase. These parts were either missing already or completely rusted when I bought it. Also, please understand that while I have done my best to catalog all parts to the car, I may have missed something minor, so please be realistic: this is a total project car and all of the parts original to the car that come with it will likely be replaced, and if not, will certainly need restoration. Also, worthy of note, this was not an AC car, and so comes with none of the components to make it one.
The car has been torn down to the unibody (equivalent to the frame for old Mustangs) with the suspension left underneath so it can be moved and trailered easier. So far we have completed 95% of the metal work on the car. It has new floors, full quarters, trunk pans and a new taillight panel. Next step would be prepping for body and paint, or possibly soda blasting.
All in all, a solid numbers matcher. Any Mustang enthusiast knows the value of one of these Mach 1s when complete, particularly when they still have the original drivetrain. The car sits as you see it in the pictures, with the fenders, hood and doors all hung on, the motor set back into the engine bay, the transmission set in the back of the car, as well as all parts boxed up for easier transport. These parts are bolted down minimally, simply to make transport easy, as the purchaser will inevitably want to remove and restore these components. We have already done all of the legwork to make this car immediately ready to ship.
