VEHICLE This is one of the nicest 3rd generation(80-86)Ford Broncos in existence. One owner and always stored inside from Tucson, Arizona so it's 100% rust free. The paint and interior are all original. It's extremely rare because of the highly desirable engine/transmission drive train combination that mates the factory 4.9L (300 c.i.d.) I6 engine (which many argue is the best Ford engine ever made) to the legendarily strongNP435"Granny Gear" 4 Speed manual transmission. 109k original miles.Runs and drives tight like new with no rattles and absolutely no leaks and zero mechanical issues.Everything works as it should, with hot heat and cold AC. Professionally installed 6 inch Dick Cepek Stage II lift kit with extended radius arms and long travel shocks plus 4 brand new 33 x 12.5 x 15 BFG All Terrain tires mounted and balanced on 4 brand new 15 x 10 black steel Street Lock simulated bead lock rims. I not only have one of the largest Early Bronco collections in the South West but also have 40 years experience restoring classic cars and trucks and strive for both mechanical and aesthetic excellence as documented in my 12,100 plus eBay feedback rating at 100% over the last 17 years. I found this truck in a pole barn outside Tucson where it had been parked since 2008 and then acquired it from the original owner. (I don't consider myself an owner because I've only driven it 40 miles). I paid to tow it away because I wanted to drain it of all the old fluids before attempting a start. It's since been mechanicallyrestored by a team of professionals. Virtually everything was touched except for the exterior which still sports the remarkably fresh original factory paint. PICTURESNote that eBay's picture format only allows 24 pics in the top left section of the screen but if you scroll down to the very bottom of this auction you will find many more detailed pictures. HISTORY Built in Wayne, MI. - 1980 was the 1st year of this TTB (Twin Traction Beam front suspension) Bronco which ran the same basic chassis from 80 through 96. Such a long production run means there's tons of parts and aftermarket support for these rigs which were really F150 station wagons with a removable convertible top. Because they are designated by the Federal Government as station wagons (having a factory back seat) all 50 States do not require mud flaps (like pickups do) and they can be legally driven on urban Boulevards (unlike pickups in many big cities which are restricted). THE 4.9L 300 C.I.D. I6 POWER PLANTThese are rare wild horses. All fluids were drained whereby it was quickly determined that the original gas tank and sending unit needed replaced so a brand new 33 gallon tank and sending unit were acquired and professionally installed. The radiator was removed & sent to Performance Radiator to be flow tested and rodded out of principle. A compression check showed all cylinders in spec. The valve cover gasket had a previous minor leak so the cover was removed and a new gasket was professionally installed along with new rocker arm assemblies, rocker studs, push rods and hydraulic lifters. The carburetor was removed and professionally rebuilt. New gas, oil, plugs and coolant were added and she fired right up 1st try and ran perfect. A tune up with new ignition parts was then performed and the timing set to factory specs. Starts every time with a click of the key. Runs just like an industrial sewing machine. No leaks, no smoke, no knocks, no rattles, no issues. Just smooth quiet torquey power. These engines are truly amazing. According to Wikipedia: "The 300cuin (4.9L) six was added for the F-series in 1965. Power outputs were increased to roughly 122hp (91kW) during the early 1980s, before fuel injection was introduced. This became the primary engine of the line, eclipsing the 240. Unlike the Falcon engine, it featured separate intake and exhaust manifolds, which could be easily replaced with aftermarket manifolds offering the promise of even more power, through the installation of larger carburetors and a higher flowing exhaust system. Also during the late sixties and early seventies, the 300 was used in larger vehicles such as dump trucks, many weighing into the 15,000-20,000 pound (7,000-9,000kg) range. These 300s were equipped with a higher flow HD (Heavy Duty) exhaust manifold and forged crankshafts and rods since the engines were going to be constantly working in the 3000-4000 rpm range. These rare, yet effective manifolds had a much higher exhaust flow rate due to the fact that many of these engines would spend hours at 3000 RPMs or more. Due to their straightforward and high flowing design, enthusiasts often seek these manifolds out due to the ease in which they allowturbochargersto be retrofitted to the engine. Engine sizes were converted to metric for 1983, causing the 300 to become the "4.9". Fuel injection and other changes in 1987 pushed output up to 150 horsepower with 8.8:1 compression. This engine was gradually phased out, ending production in 1996.... However, it was renowned for its durability, low end torque, and ease of service. [In Broncos] the 300 4.9 came [only] with New Process NP435 4-speed manual transmissions. The 4.9-liter 6-cylinder was built in the Cleveland, Ohio engine plant. Race car driver Scott Donohue Raced a rally truck with a ford 4.9 in it and won the baja 1000 3 times. This engine is also used byStewart and Stevensonand Harlanin their standard tow tractors, as well as a multitude of other pieces of equipment, such as ski lifts, power generators, wood chippers, tractors, and, until they converted to diesel engines, mostUPStrucks. ManyUPStrucks still use the 300 to this day.In stationary service (generators and pumps) fueled with LPG or natural gas, this engine is known as the CSG-649". How many trucks have you ever driven that have an engine so strong and reliable that it can power ski lifts? MECHANICAL RESTORATIONEvery serviceable part that needed it was inspected and replaced where required. The exceptionally large 33 gallon gas tank and sending unit were replaced with new and the radiator refurbished. All the fuel and oil filters plus all the fluids in all the cases were replaced. The brakes were bled and inspected. They were all newer and already adjusted well. The battery has a 3/17 sticker on it. Have you ever seen an engine so clean on a vehicle that hasn't been through a complete restoration? This truck has clearly lead an easy life. EMISSIONSThis truck is Emissions Legal in all 50 States and Canada as it runs the factory catalytic converter and nothing's been altered under the hood. The factory 2 bbl Motorcraft carb is made by Holly for Ford since the early 60's and are easily tuneable and adjustable to always pass emissions anywhere. Moreover, this truck is eligible for Historic Plates in any State. That means you can get Collector Car Insurance from places like Grundy Worldwide or Haggerty, which is not only far cheaper ($18/mo. for a $15,000 full coverage policy) but also the vehicle becomes immediately Emissions Exempt! Can you imagine only $18 per month for Full Coverage auto insurance? Well that's exactly what I pay on my classic Broncos. NP435E 4 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSIONNew Process manual transmissions are notoriously rugged and these "E" models were specifically built for Fords. It features the incredibly deep 6.7 to 1 first gear ratio, a.k.a. "Granny Gear". 2nd gear is 3.34 to 1. 3rd gear is 1.79 to 1 and 4th gear is 1.00 to 1. Reverse is 8.26 to 1. There are no leaks. The clutch engages smoothly and the gears shift concise as designed. These transmissions are so robust they ran in school buss's and 5 ton dump trucks. The RPM's produced by the granny gear ratio also means these Ford 2 bbl carbs can tackle the steepest of inclines without stumbling. DIFFERENTIALSBoth differentials are 3.08 gear ratio which means it's perfect for highway cruising, saving gas and engine RPM's, yet with the Granny Gear 1st you can still rock crawl. It's the best of both worlds because the 3.08 pinion gears are The front is a Dana 44 TTB which means it's strong with lots of parts availability. The twin traction beam TTB coil sprung front end with extended radius arms means not only is the ride super smooth but also these trucks can be jumped without the worry of bending like a straight front axle will. The rear end is a Corporate Ford 8.8 inch. No leaks nor issues in either diff. One summer a bunch of guys were down playing in our 4x4s along the banks of the Santa Cruz River and a buddy had an '83 Bronco identical to this one in every way except baby blue with no lift on 31 inch tires. He had removed the doors and top to shed some weight as it was warm. He began trying to climb this steep & slippery 25 foot hill which was an extremely challenging obstacle due to the uneven approach and lack of traction. He kept at it to no avail, bumping it up about half a dozen times but couldn't quite make it. So being a bit drunk he wasn't wearing a seat belt and suddenly stomped the gas, trying to bull his way up but the approach bump literally knocked him out of the drivers door onto the ground next to the truck which, without a driver, just marched at idle in granny gear all the way up and over the top like a soldier, much to all our astonishment. He ran after it and it was chugging along so slow that he was able to jump back in and that's how Jack conquered that hill. The point is this engine has so much low end torque and such a big flywheel that when combined with that granny gear it just won't stall. It will literally climb steep obstacles by itself. That's when I learned why big straight 6 motors rule! No wonder Toyota Land Cruisers ran them from 1956 to 1996. NP208 TRANSFER CASEThe factory 208 2 speed transfer case was so strong it was used by Ford in the F250, F350 and Bronco (but interestingly not in the F150). It has a 2.26 to 1 gear ratio so when in low range combined with the granny gear you can literally inch along. It features a strong but light aluminum housing and is driven by a big 5 inch wide chain. It uses red transmission oil instead of gear oil which reduces drag for improved fuel economy. One guy I know had one in a 1980 rock crawler Bronco. He forgot he removed the skid plate and then accidentally punched a hole in the case landing on a rock. He drove it every day for 13 months with zero fluid until it finally broke. That's a tough transfer case to be sure. The factory Ford manual lockout hubs (way stronger than virtually every aftermarket hub) engage normally and the 4x4 works as designed. INTERIOR The owner didn't smoke. The interior is amazingly clean for a 34 year old vehicle. The speedometer works as designed. The seats aren't ripped. The gauge cluster looks good as does the dash with the aftermarket removable cover. The original dash top shows typical heat cracking underneath the cover (which hides it well). Of course LMC Truck sells new dash pads in addition to virtually every other interior part for these Broncos if you wish to take it to the next level. All the gauges work including fuel. There's an aftermarket Sony CD deck installed with Sony 3 way speakers. All the windows go up and down including the rear tailgate window which functions via a rocker switch under the steering column. The heat blows hot. The AC has been converted to modern 134A freon and blows cold. The steering wheel has been converted to a 12 inch Grant wheel. The horn was eliminated but can be put back in use with either a Grant GT wheel or back to stock. Both shifter knobs have the graphics that display the number of gears and the correct shift pattern. The roof headliner is spotless. The seats are the original cloth style. The rear seat is in excellent shape and ingeniously designed because it has a quick release mechanism so you can quickly remove it (although it appears to have come from a different Bronco because the material is plaid?) The floor has the original parchment and is great shape considering the age. The rear parchment by the tailgate it a bit more worn with a 6 inch hole in the material but still in remarkable shape considering. The only real blemishes with the interior is that a prior owner evidently removed the side panels in the rear cargo area for whatever reason and never replaced them as well as thethe sun visors are missing. Also the factory jack is missing. Fortunately those are relatively cheap & easy issues to resolve. EXTERIOR 100% rust free truck. On a scale of 1 to 10 the rust free scale is 10. Tucson is where the Air Force mothballs old aircraft because there is no corrosion due to lack of humidity. Just Google "Tucson Air Force Bone Yard" for some amazing pics. Obviously the truck has never been wrecked because the factory paint looks amazing but there are of course 34 years worth of little stone chips, shopping cart dings and blemishes on the sheet metal, imperfections that are not really noticeable from afar. Of course there's no bondo or filler being original paint. At some point the original tailgate was replaced from a Bronco with the identical factory color. You can tell because there's still an emblem that reads "overdrive". The removable fiberglass top is designed to be light but very strong and in great shape with no cracks or delamination. It was removed and the fiberglass exterior sprayed with Duplicolor spray on bed liner to seal it. It's held down securely with 4 bolts (one on each corner) which is plenty (although the factory used more). Needless to say when you remove the top and the rear seat these Broncos look really cool, especially a classic one this good looking. The glass is in great shape with no cracks or stone chips but the driver's side view mirror does have a thin crack running through it that is barely noticeable and does not impede vision in any way. Many of these TTB Broncos were 2 tone paint, meaning that bottom 6 inch strip along the wheel wells and doors were a different contrasting color, so for example a blue or green truck had that strip in tan. If I were going to keep the truck I'd carefully paint that strip black with Duplicolor spray on bedliner. I think it would really pop. (After sale I can probably make time to perform that task for a reasonable additional fee to be negotiated later if buyer chooses). TIRES,WHEELS & SUSPENSION $1500 was spent on a wheel alignment with new wheels and tires that have only a couple miles on them as you can see by the factory stickers still on the tread. The 4 matching 33 x 10.5 x 15 BFG All Terrain tires have maybe 4 miles on them. The brand new 15 x 10 black steel Street Lock wheels are made by Pro Comp and look identical to a $1200 set of Allied Beadlocks but are street legal. The 5th spare is an old 33 x 12.5 x 15 that holds air with a new valve stem mounted on a 15 x 8 steel wheel. Original owner had the Stage II 6 inch Dick Cepek lift installed. You can tell it was done professionally. The shocks and steering stabilizer are older but don't leak and work great. The new longer coil springs and extended radius arms look great and substantially improve the ride, flex and wheel travel. The rear runs the stock leafs on lift blocks. We just re-torqued the u-bolts. These long travel kits were about $1500 installed back in the day. They will allow up to a 36 inch tire. DRIVEABILITY Starts great. Runs great. Shifts great. Stops great. Handles great. Looks great. 4x4's great. Comfortable to sit in. Comfortable to drive. Smooth ride. Tight steering. No rattles. No leaks. No issues. Everything works. You can tell it's never been seriously off roaded because the gas tank skid plate is pristine with none of the usual scrapes and dings. BUGOUT CAPABILITYDoomsday Preppers take bugout capability seriously. How many bugout vehicles have you heard of that start with a 33 gallon fuel tank? At the bottom of this auction I've provided a list of all the TTB Broncos that have recently SOLD here on eBay. Note that none of them have this industrial drive train combination. Moreover, every single one of these top sellers would be immediately disabled in the event of an electro magnetic pulse because they are all controlled by computers. Come the Big Pulse or Zombie Apocalypse this truck will be one of the few left on the road because it is carbureted with no engine electronics governing it. PAPERWORK TITLE is Clean, Notarized, Arizona, "A Box" (meaning original miles) ready to go. Never liened. Never salvaged. A NOTE ABOUT FEEDBACKI've bought and sold a lot of trucks on eBay over the years and every experience has been a good one because of a simple rule a pawn broker from Philadelphia (who is a long standing eBay P0WERSeller) once taught me about the logic of eBay. He explained that as a rule of thumb each positive feedback is worth a dollar of trust. That means if you want to buy, say, a $300 carburetor the seller should have at least 300 positive feedbacks. Of course this rule is often difficult to follow when buying vehicles as most sellers just don't have those kinds of sales numbers, but it's a general guideline worth thinking about, especially for rookie eBayers who are quite understandably nervous about sending money to a stranger for a vehicle sight unseen. Bottom line is this: established long time sellers like myself would never ruin their hard earned feedback over the price of some vehicle since reputation is worth far more than that. The same cannot be said about some random guy with, say, only a 175 or even 750 feedback. TERMS OF SALE Please do not click BUY NOW or SUBMIT OFFER without funds to honor terms. Ebay is NOT a game. The older the better. Moreover, people are paying a lot of money for not so much truck in my view. None of them have the NP435 tranny. None have the industrial straight 6. None are set up for off roading. Not a single lift kit on any of them. All of them (except for that 1982) are driven by computers and the fact is those EFI systems were prone to developing untraceable "ghosts" in the wiring harness that are unfixable. Every single one was an automatic transmission which means that 25% of the horse power (and gas mileage) is robbed by the torque converter. Automatics tend to leak and are expensive to fix. Automatics cannot be push started. Automatics don't have a granny gear. Half the off roading world thinks automatics suck. Fact is this is the only non-automatic 80-96 Bronco out there for sale on eBay and just look at the condition. Look at the lift and tires. Look at that engine!
