1998 Ford Ranger XLT Extended Cab Pickup 4-Door Description

2nd owner. Purchased in 2000. For the past six years I have only put on average around 3,000 miles/year on it. It is an extra vehicle, and has been used strictly for utility (Home Depot runs, yard supplies), skiing, or if I need the 4-wheel drive when it snows.
The answer to the obvious question: "why are you selling it?"
I bought a new truck (2016 GMC Canyon), that has lots of bells & whistles and leather seats. My wife and I want something newer for camping and skiing. While the Ranger has been - and still is - a great and reliable truck, after 17 years I'm just ready for something newer and nicer. There's no reason to sell it otherwise; it does what I need it to do, and has been 100% dependable.

The Basics:
  • 3.0L V-6 Engine runs great, very reliable
  • 5-speed manual transmission is great
  • 4-wheel drive system fully functional
  • Tires are in OK shape
  • Full-size spare tire
  • Never been in an accident
Everything works, including electrical accessories and cruise control
Options/Features:
  • Extended cab w/fold down rear seats
  • Power windows and locks
  • Power mirrors
  • Air Conditioning
  • Sliding rear window
  • Flare/step-side box
  • Bed liner insert with tie-down cleats
  • Trailer hitch
  • Floor mats (matching)
  • AM/FM/CD
  • Cruise Control
  • Mud guards front and rear
  • Rock protector on hood
  • Tow hooks on front

Recent Maintenance:
20K miles ago (at 159,732) I had the front suspension rebuilt, including:
  • Upper and Lower Control Arms
  • Ball joints
  • Brake calipers

Minor Issues:
  • It has a small oil leak, probably from the head gasket. It's been there for years, and it's never been worth fixing, so I haven't. I only have to add 1/2 quart of oil about once a year, so it really is a minor leak.
  • The body is straight, except for a ding in the middle of the hood, and the paint is not in the greatest shape. Some scratches on the top of the rear of the cab, some paint rubbed off one of the flare sides on the driver's side, a small dent in the rear bumper. All of the door and window seals are fine, though, and no water leaks into the cab.
  • The clutch was replaced about 25K miles ago, but it could use an adjustment. It works fine, but has a long throw.
Bottom line is this truck runs very strong and reliably, and I'd keep it if I hadn't bought a newer truck. I've owned this truck for 17 years, and have been very fond of it. It's fun to drive, and it will get you where you want to go, especially in heavy snow or off-road.
