1984 Ford Mustang Description
1984 Ford SVO Mustang
I am the second owner of this car and purchased it in 1985. If you know about the SVO Mustang, then you know that only about 6,000 of these were made in its three-year run from 1984-86.
This was and is a fast car that handles extremely well. It still holds its own against today's modern cars. Plus, it looks great.
It's a rear-wheel drive car, so it's not good in snow, although I have driven it in all weather conditions. This car underwent a significant mechanical overhaul in 2005 and has been driven fewer than 10,000 miles since.
Here's what was done:
- New turbocharger
- New master cylinder
- New control arms and ball joints
- New catalytic converter
- New springs and shocks
I have replaced the passenger side marker lens. If you know this car, the driver side marker lens is unavailable - unless someone has decided to make it. I have an extra passenger side marker lens.
The starter was replaced about 2009.
There are four rims purchased from Tire Rack and Dunlop 16 x 225-50VR tires (both purchased in 2003). The rims are in very good condition.
I recently (weeks ago) replaced the spark plugs. I also have a new battery, which I'll provide to the owner.
This is a five-speed manual transmission. It never had air or power windows.
This car still needs work. Here are the remaining issues:
- No power to the fuel pump.- Clutch pedal is now sticking- No. 1 cylinder leaks oil. It has always leaked a bit of oil. The engine probably should get new piston rings.- There is rust on the brake discs.
This has a new sunroof. I have the original cover for the sunroof. The toneau cover for the hatchback is there and in good condition.
There is an aftermarket radio, and the wiring got messed up. I no longer am in possession of the original AM/FM radio.
The interior is in good shape but will need to be cleaned. The roof liner is falling (typical for Mustangs).
The paint has some bubbling.
One of the tires is flat (it was holding air a few weeks ago).
This car will need to be hauled and revived. This will make a great project car.
I have the Chilton manual and another aftermarket guide. It has a full-size spare, which is one of the original rims. I think there might be a Goodyear Gatorback mounted to it.
