1937 Ford Other Model 78 Description

1937 Ford Model 78B Deluxe Station Wagon

Gorgeous patina showcasing all original paint, wood body, chrome, and rare side window glass! Newer interior upholstery and carpet cater to the driver after a complete mechanical rebuild! Upgraded with very rare Tattersfield aluminum intake and dual Stromberg 97 carburetion, this car runs better than the day it sold new! A great conversation piece and even better cruiser you can enjoy with utmost confidence!

The 1937 Ford ushered in a more rounded look with a V-shaped grill, split windscreens, and recessed teardrop headlamps in the fenders. Mechanically, larger water pump mounted lower were used to help aid in cooling with inlets now feeding the center of the heads. The station wagon now had comfortable seating for eight passengers with a new center bench allowing access to a rear third bench. Also brand new for 1937 would be the addition of a lift gate rear access door. The Deluxe Station Wagon production totaled 9,304 units, but with rear window glass optional, it is estimated only half of the units manufactured received glass enclosures. These beautiful wood-structured bodies were built by skilled hands with wood harvested from Michigan’s Iron Mountain. Offering slow growing, old growth Maple and Birch hardwoods, each were harvested, sawed, planed, and built in panel form before being shipped to plants for final assembly and approval with Murray stamping. The original wood of any Ford from the 1930 will continue to possess the unique golden color and graining that simply cannot be reproduced today. We would estimate less than 5% of Ford Station Wagons possess their original wood harvested directly by Ford. This example will continue to be celebrated for showcasing its original maple frame and birch panels with incredible pride! Quite remarkable really after almost 80 years of preservation!

This example comes to us from the former owner of 3 years who insisted on keeping this Station Wagon as original as possible, but also be ready & safe for comfortable road use at anytime. Having a previous registration from East Hampton, Connecticut dating back to 1957, it is believed to have been in sympathetic storage for many, many years. This required that nearly all wearable items be addressed that included flushing all fluids, replacing the tires, all brake equipment & cables, all the wiring from front to back with correct cloth-covered harnesses, new exhaust system, new battery & cables, suspension rubbers, and new engine & transmission mounts. Once completed, the engine was resealed and treated with a very rare enhancement of a Tattersfield aluminum racing intake fitted with new dual Stromberg 97 carburetion! For added flare, each was fitted with custom beehive style billet aluminum air cleaner! Inside, all of the original seating material remained, and based on the looks of the rearmost bench, required recovering to truly enjoy from the driver’s seat. Both the front and center benches were re-stuffed and upholstered in proper brown naugahyde material, and the floors recovered in gorgeous, new carpeting. The last seat was left untouched as a reminder of how it was found. This leads to a far more inviting area for the driver and guests lucky enough to enjoy such a special time capsule!

We invite all interested buyers to come witness this Deluxe Station Wagon in person. It retains all original factory window glass with metal framed rear hatch window, all factory installed wood, all original rust free sheet metal, solid chassis and running boards, chrome bumpers, deluxe interior appointments with banjo steering wheel, and more! The factory chassis stamp is clear and presentable and the drivetrain overall remains original. It runs wonderfully with easy starts, no smoke, smooth clutch engagement and transmission shifts, and confident braking! A wonderful piece to drive just about anywhere and/or show in any survival class events! A sure winner! Please call with questions!
