1979 Ford Bronco Description
For sale: 1979 Bronco XLT original survivor, ordered new in Great Falls at Bison Motors and never left Montana.
I'm the local "Bronco guy" around here, so I got the call when the 2nd owner got too old to use it. When I saw how clean and original it was, I grabbed it for a buddy who runs a snowplow business. He says these are the best plow rigs ever built, with short wheelbase, V8 power, all the comfort options, and bulletproof Dana 44/NP 205/Ford 9 inch drive train. After I drove it, I realized how really good this truck is and thought I should put it up here to see if someone wants to drive or restore it before it gets relegated to a life of plow duty. It's a truly loaded rig with just about every option available including the factory roll bar (GT bar). It's complete and original right down to the factory jack, lug wrench and handle under the hood and the original manuals and warranty card in the glove box. All the original smog equipment is still present and functioning. This truck runs and drives good and most everything works right down to the cruise control. It's a Western rig so condition is better than what you see in the midwest or east coast states. Honest original, what you see is what you get, not a fluffed up bondo buggy like so many on Ebay. For the guys back east, this truck is what you may have seen there 30 years ago when these were 8-10 years old. These Broncos are solid and stout rigs, probably one of the best ever built. Great for a mudder/wheeler, or a truck to leave up at the cabin, or just a backup winter driver when you need 4wd.
Exterior: Looks great from 20 feet, original paint would probably buff out to a nice shine. Straight rig overall, with some dents in tailgate and front of roof. Typical Bronco rust in some areas on the lower body, most noticeable around passenger rear wheel opening and along bottom of doors. A couple blisters on the upper body, above passenger door and near tailgate on driver side. Here out west it's arid and we don't salt the roads, so the rust seen here is typically superficial, not structural. The cab and body mounts on this truck look good, as do rockers and floors. Doors close like a bank vault. Frame has surface rust but no rot. I've taken 80 photos in both the sun and shade of all areas of the truck and included them in the Photobucket album linked below. PLEASE take the time to look at them before bidding. Grille and grille surround are in good condition, glass is good except windshield which is cracked. Paint on fiberglass roof is baked off and it will need repainted or rhino lined at some point. Stock truck except for aftermarket sunroof that was installed when new, as was the trend back in the day.
Interior: Original and decent driver condition. See additional pics on Photobucket. A few cracks in dashpad under the mat, driver seat has tears as shown. All the comforts, XLT accoutrements, tilt, cruise, A/C, etc etc. Factory captains chairs are very comfortable, passenger side is missing outer arm rest. Most everything works, see function list below. Use as is or take it to the next level.
Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out well. No noticeable noises, smoke, or leaks. Really tight, smooth and quiet, truck was well maintained and had two older owners - never thrashed. Original 351 and automatic with power steering, power brakes, tilt, cruise, A/C, etc. Most everything works, see function list below. New battery and near-new tires. Original mag wheels in good condition. Original OEM spare is included. 4x4 works well in high and low range. Temp gauge sometimes reads toward the high end of the operating range, but doesn't overheat or push coolant out overflow. I drove it 30 miles today on back country roads at speeds of 35-55 and it worked great. Drive now and improve it as you go.
Pricing/Misc: If you've been searching for a Bronco, you know that prices have gotten nutty in the last 5 years. I looked for comps, and found this well used Bronco next door in Wyoming. Ostensibly less rust, but you can fix a lot of issues for 10,500 dollars. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1979-Ford-Bronco-/253000661878?hash=item3ae803bb76:g:LxgAAOSwX9FZNsbz&vxp=mtr
I have a very low reserve set at what I'm into the truck, if it doesn't sell I will pass it on to my snowplow friend.

This rig runs and drives fine, but flying in and driving it long distance isn't a good option. Montana is a huge state and it's a long way between towns. In many areas there are few services and poor cell service. Truck transport for this Bronco isreadily available, and probably cheaper than fixing rust on an eastern tetanus truck. Montana title isclear with no liens, signed off and notarized ready for you to fill in your name as purchaser .After the sale, I can store the truck for up to 30 days free, after that $100 per month storage will be due. Buyer needs to get insurance as soon as car is paid for as I will cancel mine at that time. AS IS NO WARRANTY
