1990 Rust Free Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe SC
1990 Ford Thunderbird Supercoupe SC Description
Rare 1990 White Super Coupe Thunderbird 5 Speed manual, 91,684 Miles. One of the greatest sleeper cars ever manufactured and was motor trends car of the year. High Output Essex 3.8 Supercharged V6 only 225 Horse, but 340 pounds of torque still runs 0-60 in 6 flat. Know as the Mustang killer. With electronic shocks (still available on the market), 4 wheel disk brakes and an independent rear end, it was way ahead of its time. If you know what this car is you'll enjoy it and will find this one cared for and running strong. You can even make it stronger.
Head gaskets redone at 85,000 miles. All new valves, guides, seals, head re-surfacing and valve job. Reassembled using Fel-pro gaskets. All belts, hoses, alternator, water pump and brakes have been replaced. Car runs great, makes 12 lbs of boost. New radiator as well. Tires are Goodyear's best performance ones with half life left. Drove it very recently from Prescott AZ (5,000 ft.) to Phoenix when it was 114 degrees in the valley. Never went over half way on the gauge. Even going back up the mountain to Prescott in heavy traffic (sometimes it was at 20mph) it got to 5/8ths and never more. And that was with the Air Conditioning on all the time. One of the reasons for the head gaskets going on these cars is that the exhaust headers originally had a 1 and 5/8" outlet which created so much back pressure that the engines would get hot (remember they are supercharged) and blow the gaskets. I had a racing machine shop open them up to 2" which solved the problem. This car is original and does not have any speed parts added other than opening up the headers and adding new motor mounts.
The Air Conditioning is Ice Cold. It is still running R12 and the car comes with a half tank (30lb tank) of Freon to suit the car. You can't run it on high cold or you will freeze your face off. The heat is also hot when you need it.
Everything works on this car… all electronics function as they should. It has: power windows, power locks, ac, cruise control, rear window defrost, power front racing style seats(original), speed sensitive steering, keyless entry, selectable ride control, auto dimming mirrors, auto seat belts, ABS brakes, and ford premium sound system. The radio/CD/tape player has been rebuilt by a specialist. The power aerial has been replaced, the power windows have had all the motors/gears replaced. The battery is an Interstate and less than a year old. The power sunroof works. I'm 6'3" tall and have the drivers seat set back to suit my height. To return to stock, just take the added extensions off and re-bolt to the floor in the original position. The interior is black fabric, not leather, a benefit in the southwest as the leather interiors split and fall apart because of the heat. It has no check engine lights on.
There are performance cross drilled rotors installed on the front brakes with matching pads. The shocks need replacement but still work when you drive it hard through traffic circles… one of the fun things I always enjoyed. Go in last and come out first… a great handling car. The five speed transmission is great fun to drive as well. On a side note, the supercharger has been checked and oiled properly… its about the quietest one I've ever heard at idle… of course it had that great supercharger windup sound when you get on it. The exhaust is still original… because the car has always lived in the Southwest. There is absolutely no rust. I originally bought it used, in southern California, and it has lived the rest of its life in Prescott Arizona. It also gets great gas mileage, 28mpg was the best I have gotten while cruising.
The damage to the front end happened in an accident below 35mph and was superficial. I had it repaired so I could continue to drive the car. The car is registered and insured. It had to pass the Arizona DMV inspection to get back on the road when the Insurance company totaled it because of its age and lack of parts availability. This is a cult car if you don't know anything about it. To find out more about these cars, go on Facebook and type in Thunderbird Supercoupe. It has a top speed potential, in regular form, of about 144mph. I've never done it but have had it to a hundred several times. I've never drag raced it. I wouldn't hesitate to jump into it and drive to Maine and back in it if I wanted to with no worries. I'm 73 years old and am a car guy that appreciates special performance cars like this one. It's a very fast and dependable car. The car is not perfect with some body dents but is very presentable. Why am I selling it? I've acquired another car in my bucket list… a Jaguar XKR and the TBird is just not getting the attention it deserves from someone like you. Comes with a factory shop manual. Any other questions, just ask.
