1998 Ford Contour SE Description

Sit back and let me tell you about my car. How many times on ebay or anywhere do you see an ORIGINAL owner and primary driver of a nearly 20 year old car? Well, I myself bought this at Conshohocken Ford in April of 1998. I was then a lawyer in my mid 30s and had a statewide practice. I needed a car which would be practical and decent on gas but also not boring and mundane. I did a lot of research before settling on the Sport Edition version of the Contour with the factory Getrag five speed manual transmission. I felt like it was a poor mans Vette, a very poor mans Vette (LOL) but it had 170hp and loved to rev. There were very few options available. Mine had the smokers package (I've since discarded it and in fact never smoked in it). It came from the factory with such goodies as: alloy wheels; electric sunroof; power windows and locks; rear spoiler. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the car was never in a collision with another car nor did its airbags ever deploy.
Yes, my oldest son banged it around the garage from time to time and it by no means has a perfect body, but no collision damage and no worries about whether it was put back together right. It has the original Ford factory paint. It was driven mostly highway miles, across Pennsylvania on I-80 and the Turnpike, from 1998 till about 2005. That's when most of the mileage went on Connie. I paid about $18,005 for her. Here is a list of the GOOD and the BAD:
GOOD:--I have the original window sticker! Shows the options and original cost. It's in fair shape, stayed in glovebox all these years.--no collisions beyond with a brown 1970s style TV in our garage and a bike or two--original paint- no paintwork ever!--no airbag deployment ever!--original owner--me--oil changed regularly, usually between 3,000 and 4,000 miles--many receipts for all the repairs done over last 19 years--I would say "all" but maybe I tossed an oil change or minor repair. There are well over a dozen repair receipts.--aftermarket Kenwood CD player--all original but for the Kenwood radio and CD player--170hp factory V-6 24 valve engine that has never been rebuilt or blown a rod or head gasket or anything-- no engine work, she is still smooth and happy to rev if you wish.--no weird noises, knocks or sounds out of engine, probably cause I changed the oil pretty religiously. My father taught me that was the single most important thing to do for longevity of a car.--fairly modern body style -- doesn't look boxy or as old as she is.--15" 8 spoke factory alloy wheels with wheel locks--Power moonroof which was $600 option (does not work-- see below under Bad)--Factory foglamps--No smoking ever inside this car--No odd or funny odors--Carpets are all original and there has been no fire or burning of the seats or carpets; as you might imagine they are discolored but I would say about average for a 19 year old car.--Leather wrapped wheel--Runs strong and accelerates smoothly like it should and not much less ooomph than when she was new (but I have never had her compression tested, there was no need)--Look at my feedback, I am honorable and reliable, not one negative in over 2800 deals since 2002, though I rarely if ever sell vehicles--Very low mileage for its model year-- AVERAGE of 7,900 miles per year with just under 150k total--ORIG mileage, no worries about who did what to the odometer---I hereby certify and guarantee the miles are original, no rollbacks or tampering, and driven under 5,000 miles per year since 2006 or 2007.--29 mpg highway according to window sticker which I have.--no reserve!!!!!
BAD:
--body has a fair amount of scratches and nicks. I want to be honest in saying it looks better in photos than it does in person. This isn't the result of accidents with another vehicle. I trained 3 of the 4 kids how to drive on this manual tranny car. So, there are a good number of scratches and dings. The body has no dents but a lot of dings and scratches. PLEASE look at photos carefully.
--Moonroof doesn't work. It was a factory option which cost $600, came with this particular car on the lot. It makes noise like it is trying to work, but sounds stuck. It stopped working about two years ago.
--One power window does not work-- the rear driver's side. I do not know why.
--AC does not work-- yes it has factory AC but it doesn't work. In the later years I didn't drive her often enough to get it fixed. No AC parts have been removed but I would bet on it needing a new compressor.
--It is possible it could need a catalytic converter. One mechanic once told me he thought so, but it didnt matter to me cause in Pennsylvania, if you drive under 5,000 miles per year, as is the case with this car since 2006 or 2007, you don't need to get an emissions inspection. I don't have proof it needs a new CAT but it might so I want to be honest in saying it might, I have not worried about it cause only drove her under 5,000 miles per year of late.
--occasionally she jumps out of first gear, only. Odd but it happens only on occasion. Trans does NOT slip, this issue is limited to first gear and is occasional.
I've tried to be dead honest and complete but feel free to email me with specific questions.
I work 60 hours a week and honestly don't wish to deal with shipping. If a shipper comes to my house, of course that would be fine.
Can look at in person if you're in Philly area. I'm in Delaware County, PA, few minutes outside of Philadelphia.
CASH only please. I've been stupid enough to have twice been burned by official looking bank checks, I just don't want to deal with this risk any more and we are not talking a huge sum of money here.
Deposit is NON REFUNDABLE.
AS IS, no warranties express or implied. Last time I sold a car or motorcycle on ebay was at least 7 or 8 years ago.
