1972 Mustang Mach 1 Cobra Jet
Beautifully rotisserie restored in 2008 and hardly driven (2500 miles) since that time due to a busy work schedule. It is only driven on nice sunny dry days and has never seen rain since the restoration. It stays wrapped and covered in my personal garage. Every nut, bolt and component was replaced with a NOS or refurbished original (when available). Restoration was completed by a Mustang expert and no expense was spared to return the vehicle to its original showroom condition.
The vehicle was produced on October 21, 1971 in Dearborn, Michigan and delivered to Swart Park Motors Inc. in Oakley, Kansas. It was restored to its original color of Bright Red with original striping and vermillion/black deluxe comfort weave interior.
This is a nicely equipped Mach 1 with some rare factory installed options such as Air Conditioning (blows cold), Tilt Wheel, Fold-Down Rear Seat, Space Saver Spare (w/correct inflator bottle), Automatic Seat Back Release, Competition Suspension, and Convienence group. Additional options added during the restoration include intermittent wipers, front disc brakes, front (NOS) and rear spoilers, deluxe console, deluxe rim blow steering wheel (restored), posi-traction (w/N-case) and magnum 500 wheels. Included with the purchase is the Deluxe Marti Report, Original Invoice (from Louise Emminger), Ford “History 999” Report, Photo Album Documenting Entire Restoration and a Binder With 1972 Mustang Factory Publications, Literature, and Collectibles.
The body has been completely restored and any rusted metal has been replaced with original panels. The passenger rear floor was replaced, the rest of the floor (drivers side and both fronts were fine). The quarter panels had minimal rust, but there were some dents and body filler in them, so they were replaced with NOS metal along with the outer wheel wells. The trunk floor had minimal rust, but was also replaced. The vehicle was stripped to bare metal and primed with epoxy primer, then painted back to the original color and clear coated. All seams were resealed after primer and before final paint.
The interior has new carpet, headliner and all new chrome bezels. The seat material is original and still looks great. The door panels were refurbished by Gene Painter. I did add a deluxe console to finish off the interior nicely.
The powertrain is a 351-4v engine (Q Code) and the transmission is a C-6 automatic. The engine has been bored .030 over and still retains its original 4300D spreadbore carburetor, intake manifold and unique air cleaner. The camshaft was upgraded to add some additional performance, but nothing radical. The engine is not original to this Mustang, but did come out of a 71 Mach 1. It is a 2 bolt main instead of the original 4 bolt main. The rear axle is a 9 inch, 31 spline posi-traction with a 3.50 differential (originally a 3.25). The buyer will get the original 3.25 differential with the purchase.
The Mach 1 drives great, steering is tight and stops on a dime. It has never been driven hard since its restoration. There are no chips in the paint nor any leaks from the powertrain. All the exterior and interior lights work and all the gauges work also. The only things that need attention are: rim blow steering wheel, AM radio, console clock (needs a quartz kit). The steering wheel was restored to new condition, but the contacts stick and the horns stay on, so the horns are currently disconnected. The AM radio works, but not very well.
This a very beautiful and dependable Mach 1, can be driven anywhere without any issues. Includes car cover. Selling this for a friend, If you need additional information, you can call the owner at 734-634-0695.
