1999 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Coupe
1999 Ford Mustang Cobra Description
For sale is a 1999 Ford Mustang Cobra coupe. I bought this car from the previous owner in Florida and have used it as a summer-only car for the past 9 years. Miles are mostly highway. Mileage on the odometer is pushing 173,000 miles (see picture), but the motor was rebuilt shortly after I bought the car at ~98,000 miles. The motor has about 75,000 miles on it. The car has been extremely reliable since the rebuild - the only issue is that there is a little smoke on a cold start, which I would guess is due to the valve guides leaking by a little bit when the motor is off. My understanding is that this is pretty common on the Ford 4.6L modular engine and doesn't affect performance. The engine is pretty much stock apart from the rebuild and there are no check engine lights/trouble codes. All four wheel bearings were replaced in the past few months. What makes this car different from most 1999 Cobras is that a few things have been changed:
T56 Transmission swapped in for the factory T45, so this is a 6 speed manual.
Short throw shifter for the T56 (both a shift kit and a shorter arm)
Maximum motorsports caster/camber plates
Front coilovers with 350# 9" springs
Front tubular A-arms
Poly differential mount
Poly motor mounts
Upgraded aluminum 2-row radiator
I do have the original T45 transmission (has a shifter mechanism issue), original control arms (need new bushings, which I have a pair of), original springs, original struts, and original radiator. These can be included with the car if you wish.
As far as issues with this car, there is the smoking on startup issue mentioned above. You might also notice that the ABS light is on, the ABS system is not working. I can recall one time that the ABS light went out and I noticed that the ABS and traction control were working, so all of the components are there but I'm not sure where the fault is. Since this has been a summer car for me I've never felt the need to solve the issue. The only other issue is that the driver's seat foam has torn (leather has not torn, as seen in the picture). The seat is still comfortable to sit in, but I would be careful when getting in and out of the car.
I have the title in hand and clear with no liens, ready to be signed over.
A non-refundable deposit of $129.05 is due immediately to hold the car for up to 14 calendar days, unless other arrangements are made. This means that I likely won't accept any best offers without prior communication and it would be best to contact me with questions before placing a deposit through eBay. If picking up the car from out of state, note that Illinois only issues temporary tags Tuesday - Saturday. Payment is accepted via cash or wire transfer. Cashier's checks may be accepted depending on the issuing bank and how quickly funds can be verified/cleared by my bank.
If you have any questions about the car, feel free to ask me a question. The car is also available for viewing prior to making a purchase (located near St. Louis, MO).
