1966 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Convertible
Up for sale today I have my Galaxie 500XL Convertible, I have decided to thin my fleet a bit and find that this car does not get driven as much as it should so here it is for sale.
This car is a true 500XL complete with a 390 V8 and bucket seats. The car has power steering and power brakes and goes down the road nice and straight. The car is in nice shape, consider this car a driver, not a 100 point show car.I take the car to local cruise nights, parades(was just in a local Memorial Day Parade) and make runs to the store in it with the top down. The car gets looks, thumbs up, waves and even people taking pictures of it when I drive down the road.
The underneath of the car is perfect, look at the photos, no rust at all.The body is in nice shape and the only body work that I noticed is in the rear quarter panels, appears that they may have some small amounts of mud in them, look at photos for reference.
I purchased this car from out west and I was informed that it was a one family owned vehicle.Same old story, owner passed away and left to family who sold to me.The car is very nice and I love the fact that it is a 500XL 390 bucket seat car, not many around anymore and it seems like most had the small 289 power plant.
The paint does shine up but is tired, you can see that the rear quarter panels are a slightly different shade of emberglow and the car has had paint work. There are scratches (almost look like deep swirl marks in the paint)on the car and a couple of dents but nothing major. The chrome is great driver quality and the interior is also in good condition. The driver seat has a stress crack on the left side piece just above the chrome trim and another on the back where your lower left side rests.Other than that the interior is nice.
The motor runs great and the exhaust system sounds amazing on the car, nice and deep but not obnoxious by any means. The motor has never been torn down and I still run lead substitute in the gas due to the motor being original. The transmission shifts nice and smooth and all the suspension and brakes feel good. The car just passed inspection last week Thursday so everything is in working order. Tires have lots of tread but do have some dry rot from being several years old.
This is a nice driver with a few minor defects. If you are looking for something solid to do a full restoration this would be a perfect candidate, if looking for a nice driver then look no further. The car has one of the old school alarm systems with the exterior key, the alarm is disconnected but I do have the key for it if you wanted to be the only one at a car show with one of these systems operational.
I have included many pictures to indicate the condition of the vehicle, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to answer them for you. Car is sold with a transferable NYS registration in my name (no titles in NY prior to 1974) and is being sold in AS-IS condition due to being 50 years old.
I encourage you to come take a look at the car (if possible) if you want and also to take it for a drive so you know what you are purchasing. I try to take photos to document the condition for you, any questions please contact me.
I had this car listed last week with a reserve on it, this car is being listed with no reserve so the highest bidder will be the winner!
Buyer is responsible for all shipping charges. The car is registered and insured, if you need me to drop off the car to a local shipper or transport company I am willing to assist you with that. I will also assist you shipper however possible with them picking up the vehicle from my location. I am about 25 minutes due east of Niagara Falls, NY, come up visit Niagara Falls and drive the car home if you want!
